Show does have a lot of good going for it (namely its much more energetic than much of your stereotypical '99 fare), but good Christ Boyd is tough.

Yeah I listened to this yesterday (minus the second half of Jimi which cut off on me for some reason) and I agree. Good energy here (none of that slowness that everyone complains about in '99) and everyone is playing well, except for Boyd who goes off the rails a number of times. I'd find myself really getting into this show, and then something like Pig would come up and it was a rude wake up call.

It's too bad because there are a lot of shows like this in '99 that could've been pretty damn good if not for Boyd.

The Say Goodbye was gorgeous though. This is an interesting #40 too. Really enjoyed the opening OSW/R&R and the encore.

Another interesting thing about this show, is this is what 2 days after Dave broke a rib falling into a chair trying to catch a flying grape. He is on his game this show. His guitar work and vocals are some of the best I've heard. You'd never know he had an injury that usually affects a person's breathing. Boyd hurts Graves, but Dave kind of evens it out with his improv. It's certainly unique. Stupid Boyd... Glad everyone at least kind of gets out of it what I get out of it for the most part. I'm definitely in for whatever the next pick is.

5/30/99 was my first show and he was talking about the grape and the chair that night... it was a really good show, though short. I'm assuming the injury had something to do with the length of the show. Didn't even realize that this was the next show after my first. Kinda sucks I never saw just the original 5 play, I was so close...

Anyway I agree there is plenty of good stuff in '99 despite Boyd. Would like to find a good show with just the 5 from '99 where Boyd makes it the whole night without skreeing...

I really like how 'Roi played on OSW in '99, starting with his older part and then only going toward the newer part toward the end.

And you're right, Rob, about Dave's improv on this LIOG. That was pretty excellent.

Any interest in one of the 11/10 shows next? Particularly either 11.6 or 11.9 is what I had in mind.

How much more time does everyone need to finish reviewing this current show? I personally haven't started yet due to my dreamingtree.org issues, but I'm working on it.

Either one would be great. I'm bias towards 11/9 'cuz I was there but both are equally as awesome.

Just pressed play on 06/03/99. Will post thoughts here...Kinda late to the party, I know.

real strong OSW opener - Roi was perfect on the intro. Awkward start to R&R, and Dave had a little trouble with the lyrics, but I really do like this song in the #2 slot. Not a fan of Jimi so early, but this version rocked pretty hard. Loved Roi's play throughout this Rapunzel. #40 tease after.

This is one of my favorite Say Byes ever. Carter and Roi absolutely nail it.

Boyd's issues begin to appear heavily in Pig. At times he sounds fine, but he sounded awful during the end. It sounded like Dave totally noticed, and tried to mumble/sing over it.

Boyd sounded surprisingly good on his 41 solo. The '99 versions were some of the best.

Anyone up for this? I was thinking of going with a classic 2000 that has been underdiscussed. 8.23.00 Hershey. My 4011 source is awesome.

Welp, I'm only through Warehouse and LeRoi is playing soulful, yet straightforward during the outro over Butch & Carter. This is the band I miss and I'm only one track in.

The Too Much fake > Ants is classic, as well. Not oft done, and fun in the #2 slot. Dave flubs the lyrics and Butch is a bit too loud in the mix, but I'll take it over Rashawn and Tim these days.
