I always thought Harvest is a pretty uplifting album. It's quiet and beautiful. This is the version of Neil that pays attention to every single note played. Your greatest hits album picks from Harvest the song he wrote about his drummer ODing on heroin after Neil fired him from the band for being too messed up to play, so yeah it's pretty fucking dark because Neil felt responsible. Old Man is actually about buying a farm in Alberta, and the old dude selling the land was giving Neil shit because he had long hair and played rock music. It's kind of less depressing than it seems at first.

Live stuff with Crazyhorse like Jack mentioned is also fun, but it's the complete opposite. When Neil is rocking, its kind of about just riding the wave, not caring about any single note.

I think Le Noise is pretty fucking awesome, too. It's an album he did with Danny Lanois in 2010, after he was recovered from nearly dying related to a brain aneurysm.

He's definitely not a cheery guy and he doesn't make happy music. But I there is some real beauty in there that isn't outright depressing.
Yep, that's the one.

Yeah, if anything I figured I'd go more for the material on "Harvest" than anything, but I do really like "Cinnamon Girl," "Hey Hey, My My," "My My, Hey Hey," and "Ohio (CSY)."

As I'm listening to some of these tracks right now, I think I just might like his voice...it just seems a bit high to me considering what he looks like. I dunno, I'm trying to pinpoint it, but really can't.

I can't wait to get this! I'm holding off on listening to it for now- I think it would be cool to listen to the acoustic version of the album first and afterwards listen to the main version with the 92-piece orchestra.

Yes. That's what I did... Definitely wouldn't recommend it the other way 'round.

Neil's in the studio with Willie's kids, Lukas and Micah.

This should be awesome. Lukas can shred and Micah has some pretty good psychedelic projects out there.

Can't wait for this record. Lukas is pretty talented on guitar. The acoustic version of 'Keep On Rockin...' with these two from Farm Aid last year is great.

Been listening to Comes A Time lately. I think it might be my favorite album of his.

The guitar part from Goin' Back is constantly in my head.

Makes me want to start my own homestead somewhere off the beaten path with my little family... An odd mental image, but I can't help it. It's there.

This is some revolutionary shit - [Only registered users can see links.]

Everything he ever released, streaming lossless or 320, for free (until June). Apparently there's unreleased stuff thrown in too but I haven't found any yet.

Neil Young is the best man....

Ooh nice, I had heard that was gonna be happening. Thanks for heads up

I'm waiting for something similar from the Dead. I read early in the year they were gonna have a hi-res streaming service by the end of the year.
