and i enjoyed the Positive Rage doc more than the concert disc. fuck i need to see these guys again, but i think i want to wait until they add a keys guy again. i just can't imagine hearing a good chunk of their catalog without the piano interludes and shit.

and how fucking good is

"it was that night that we thought that John Berryman could fly!
But he didn't, so he died...
She said you're pretty good with words
But words won't save your life, and they didn't, so he died..."

Just saw them in Cleveland, first time I saw them live. It was a fantastic show, but I did miss the keyboard. It made some of the songs sound a bit empty. But the show was great, such an awesome live band. Plus it was at House of Blues, so very intimate setting.

Yeah, just used guitar parts. It was fine but I prefer the keyboard for the bridge.

I too miss the keys. Need Franz back. Thought the last album sucked without keys and that the songwriting was much less sharp overall. Hoping album #6 will be a return to form.

The other keys player wasn't as good as Franz. That's not to say he's the only person who could be a good keys player for them, but his stuff with THS was great. Who cares if he's a dick?

I don't know if Franz did something to personally wrong you, but in my experiences you're way off base. Franz has been nothing but awesome every time I've met/talked him. Not having Franz clearly showed in the songwriting on the last record. Tad was too much of a prima donna to listen to Franz's ideas, and that's why he was kicked out (yes he was kicked out, he didn't leave)

my dick comment was more about the snide shit he said about their music after he had quit and was promoting his solo record. basically comments to the effect of "their music is good and does the anthem rock thing well, but there's only so much i can do there"

see above, and i've talked to him a bit before and he was nice enough as far as hanging out with us and all that but he was still kind of a dick as far as his attitude went.

and where did you hear he was kicked out because of conflicts with tad? not that tad isn't a piece of work all on his own, because he absolutely is.

Not in an interview or anything like that, just through various people I know that have talked to him.

He was also a great piano/accordion/harmonica player. Added a lot to the band, and clearly the guy they brought in to replace him was not up to par

I wouldn't mind some more horns too. Their few songs with horns are awesome. Hire a multi-instrumentalist who can play horns and keys and put more of both on album #6, that is my request.

he was good, but i thought the replacement was fine as well. he had a good solo in live Barely Breathing's, but they always buried him in the mix.

Massive Nights is pretty great live without the horns though.
