The MSG date was a New Year's Eve one with Flaming Lips and Sleater Kinney, so that was a special case, I guess. They play small arenas; last time they were in Chicago, they played the UIC Pavillion, which seats 10,000. And that was a two-night stand. So I can only guess what that'll be like now if they're releasing a new record.

Acknowledged.

Now download 6.25.2011. Soundboard quality and they test drove 4 new songs. If they are any indication of what the rest of the album is like, people will soon forget SBS and WTA.

I really think SBS is a solid entry; it's not on the level of the four albums preceding it, but it's pretty great. I just really, really wish they'd dropped Either Way. It leaves a sour taste for me going into the heart of the record, which in my mind is the great run from You Are My Face to Side With The Seeds. I really think You Are My Face would have been a perfect opener.

"The Whole Love" is going to be released on 9/27.

The tracklisting is -

Art of Almost
I Might
Sunloathe
Dawned On Me
Black Moon
Born Alone
Open Mind
Capitol City
Standing O
Rising Red Lung
Whole Love
One Sunday Morning (Song For Jane Smiley’s Boyfriend)

Guess it's a single album, although the last song is the 14-minute one they've got.

I can't wait. I need to listen to some of the ones that are floating around like, "I Might" among others.

I've been a fan of this band upon their release of Ghost...and I know old school fans didnt like SBS because its a new sound, but I've always liked it.

I'd say Ghost Is Born is probably the last album I would sit and listen to all the way through. It has some solid tracks like Theoligians, I'm A Wheel, Spiders (kidsmoke), Handshake Drugs, etc. It's a good album, but it's just really laid back. I like their more upbeat stuff like Summerteeth.

my issue with the recent work on SBS and s/t isn't that it's different than what they did before, but because it's kind of dull.

I might say screw it and do a one-nighter down to Nashville. It'd be awesome to see them in the Ryman.

I mean, it's the first leg; I'm sure they'll do a Chicago date later, but I've heard that the second U.S. leg might possibly not be until next year. I'm just sick of waiting, and I've got a good feeling about this record.

Not only that, but the last two dates are in St. Louis and Madison, WI. The only thing between them is Illinois. They're literally skipping us this tour.

Central Park Summerstage, nice.

I've needed a good reason to get to Nashville someday. Looks like a nice fall road trip will solve that.

Born Alone full band sounded really great.

The Grand Ol' Opry started there decades ago, and it's where Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, a bunch of other greats used to play (although Hank may have gotten banned from there). I saw Patty Griffin there once when I was in Nashville, and it's probably my favorite venue in the country. Pics don't seem to do it justice.

It'll work out well; I've been wanting to play some shows outside of Chicago, so I'll just go down to Nashville to see Wilco and maybe try to make it to Memphis and play a few places in that area.

You just know, though, that I bought the tickets today, and tomorrow they'll end up announcing their Chicago date.

edit: also, if you've seen the Neil Young: Heart of Gold movie, that show happens at the Ryman.
