Squeals a bit, though. Did he add a reed to the mouthpiece of the trumpet?

What’s funny is Jeff is probably better at Trumpet than Rashawn

Rashawn’s a solid trumpet player. Problem is, trumpet doesn’t belong in DMB.

He’s average at best Trumpet player. My comment that Jeff was better was obviously a joke. But if you go an listen to some of the great trumpet players, Rashawn isn’t even close to being in that league. He’s competent but I wouldn’t say “solid” or “great”.

That being said, Roi was never the greatest sax player either, but Roi had a unique tone, voice and style that was very distinguishable. I don’t get that from Rashawn, I don’t think he really has his own sound or style, rather he sounds like an average trumpet player that usually tries to do more than he’s capable of. He’s good at hitting super high notes, but other than that I haven’t heard anything from him that I ever thought was impressive or that anything that really hit me like a Roi solo would.

this popped up some days ago on my youtube...
Watched it and man ... still one of my favorite DMB moments ever.
What an outstanding version and that Dave speech ("... and I've found the greatest band in the universe..")

i wish someone had footage of dave introducing the flecktones as the opener of that show, because it was a different version of the "i was flying through space" part. a big part of the crowd reaction when dave started saying that was because it really felt like a bookend to the start of the evening.

Solid, to me = average/passable.

There are countless other songs with the Flecktones guesting but for some reason this 41 resonates more profoundly all these years later.

Sure, that may be nothing more than hyperbole, but 17 years go by and this song still bangs and I would listen to it over anything this band has done in the last decade or so.

This is a solid take, in fact I’d largely agree with this. I just think some of the Rashawn bashing that goes on here is fucking embarrassing.

This isn't the debut of "Raven" after-all. More on that in a bit.
