I just don't think it set out to be a tribute to the 90s. They probably chose the time period for whatever reason and just went with it. Obviously the same movie could have been set in the 2000s or whatever.

Obviously, but isn't that why we're doing this? To create discussion about these movies? I never said it was supposed to be a tribute to the 90's, but WHY choose a time period at all? what purpose does it serve?

brian's right. if you're going to set a movie at any time other than the present, their has to be a significant reason and it needs to relate to the story in some way.

That's why I gave it a 2.5 star review. It related to the story in some way with the whole Cobain/Seattle/Vigil crap and Pilot's old crush going off the deep end, but I know what you're saying.

i feel like i'm going to have to pass this week unfortunately.. i have access to the movie just no time as we are getting ready to go to the beach and its hectic.

will it be worth the watch later? most reviews seem not so hot.

Well, the whole rave scene was pretty unique to the 90's, too. I think that most of this movie's problems stem from the direction and production design and that if those two elements were better, the 90's theme would have been more successful.
