Dave & Tim 1997 Tour
I didn't see a dedicated thread. Feel free to chat about shows, songs etc.
I've been listening to one show a day, as I love Dave/Tim and the 1997 tour was part of the trifecta of amazing tours (96, 97, 99), in my opinion. Tapes are generally very nice, with 1/22 and 1/24 being faves so far. Song highlights (for me so far, as I'm up to 1/24/97): Let You Down (1/23) Minarets > Typical > Jam (1/21) Gorgeous intros to Jimi Crazy (Captain) Later in the tour, there's I Dreamed I Killed God and more (I'll discover them as they come). Fun stories so far: Neuticals! I remember these from way back in the day Romance & Boogers (while I have not heard this one yet, I totally remember them being fun). And, of course we get a Live Trax. |

Was Dave using the Martin yet during this D&T tour?

I spent a lot of time with this tour during lockdown, especially one particular week where I filled in my archive, listened to probably 5 shows I hadn't ever heard and another 5 I hadn't heard in decades.
Some things I remember from that: 1/14 Purdue - January shows sound different than early February and late tour. This might be the best tape of the tour you haven't heard, and sounds entirely different than any D+T show of the tour. 1/21 IUP - The Typical > Thing That Happens is one of my favorite Dave & Tim jams 1/25 Utica - I think these Leave Me Prayings are buried in history. Everyone used to trade for these shows just to get them. I just hit play on this one. 1/30 Providence - I've listened to the sbd run of Deed is Done - Captain - a super grim Little Thing - Say Goodbye as much as almost anything from this tour. 2/1 Dave, Tim & Stefan West Point - would be the release of whatever year it was released. 2/2 Scranton - we talked about whether Cryptorchid should be listed as partial because they only play the back half of the song. I lost the argument, as it's "as complete as they intend it." I still think it should be listed as partial when played. 2/3 Easton - I don't know anything about this show, but looking at the set, 21/23 songs were played the night before and the other two were the previous show. That'd be fun to see today. 2/6 Blacksburg - I think this was the most traded tape of the tour. Since the soundboards came out and easy access to all shows, not just the heavy traded ones, it's not even top 5 listened now. The music between sounds so good and specific songs I remember really well. I think Let You Down most. The crowd is awful. 2/10 Lakeland - not taped. I remember Adam Nelson (whose tape list you could spend hours reviewing) having a bounty on this show. 2/17 Denver - was way more spread than 2/18 even before the sbd. Best Dreamed I Killed God. 2/18 Denver - the opening run of ten tracks including Best, Rhyme & Angel is really distracting. 2/20 San Francisco - Best Captain 2/21 San Francisco - the 3/13/99 equivalent 2/22 Los Angeles - Doesn't have the rarity bombs, but the Looking at You intro > Minarets > Dreamed > Typical is such a cool run 2/23 Tucson - Is this the only true Dave & Tim soundcheck we have? Lots of great stuff in those last two shows that doesn't get heard because of the previous few shows. |

The 2/17 - 2/23 run is scorching hot good.
1/14, 1/25, and 1/30 stand out to me from January. Definitely need a full release of 2/1. I would pay good money for that. |

Oh man I'd forgotten about "Looking at You." I liked that little stretch of music.

![]() 2/10 was a private show, right? No tickets were sold to the public and that is why it wasn’t taped? I thought the aud recording of 2/6/96 had the sdck too? It was only a few yesrs ago someone on here realized thst Looking At You was a cover. Before that we always thought it was a dave song. I was always impressed by the schoeps taper who taped the first run of shows. Those drives are ridiculous. New London > Orono > Providence is not for the faint of heart.

I live about 15 minutes from Akron Civic Theater and tried to get tickets to 2.4.97 but was not able to. I still think about that from time to time.

We originally had Looking at You as Dave like everyone did back in the day, then changed it to "If I Had Words" cover, which everyone on the planet should know from one of the greatest movies ever, "Babe." But we changed it back to Looking at You because it's really loose. The vocal rhythm is similar and Dave's lyrics are what might be if you just what a song was about and sort of the rhythm, and then made up your own song that sort of touches both. We can't straight call it "If I Had Words," so it is where it is in the almanac, and there's not a good or bad argument for what it is, except it just being an awesome intro made that much better as sequence by Dreamed as well. Either way, it's a segment of songs that everyone who swears by 2/18 and 2/21 should listen to. |

Listened to 1/25 last night. Say Goodbye lyrics caught me. Not sure how unique this line is, but I liked it: "I'm soft-spoken, but inside I roar"
Listened to 1/27 today. The crowd is amped up! Great show with Crazy, Deed Is Done, Little Thing and all of the classics. This one is definitely recommended. |

What's the story behind the 1997 soundboard leaks again?

Wish we'd get 2/1/97 for a Sirius broadcast. Love that Say Goodbye with Popper.
NP: 2/2/97 Fantastic tape. 1st Cryptorchid |
