Honestly, I’m so old now, the only thing I remember about Big Whiskey was that goddamn video of those Canadian tourists dancing to the sneak preview in some warehouse in NOLA?

The mindset looking at this now is so different than in 2009.
At the time, most people at this show would probably feel like:

Everyday - blah, lame opener.
So Damn Lucky - The MVP of 2008 is back! Awesome!
You Might Die Trying - This song is so good now!
Spaceman - I've listened to the MSG version 100 times, such a classic new tune!
Satellite - alright, crowd-pleaser radio hit.
Recently - YES! Killing it this tour!
Funny The Way It Is - nice to hear the new single live!
Crash Into Me - hmm maybe bathroom break time.
Rye Whiskey - new full band cover, cool!
Why I Am - love this new song!
Rhyme & Reason - classic song with Joe!
Beach Ball - wait, what is this? This is GREAT!
Jimi Thing - knew it was coming but alright, jamming time.
SMTS > ASTB > Billies - didn't expect that! Nice! Probably end of set?
Two Step - Awesome! Carter's killing it this year!
The Maker - Beautiful e1
Stay - Alright, this show was awesome, great fun way to end it.

Over a decade later, Tim's contributions and all the BW stuff isn't fresh anymore, and it makes a massive difference. Those Spring 09 vibes though were amazing at the time.

I recall the consensus on the boards back in 2009 was that while the two bust-outs were fun (Rye Whiskey and Beach Ball), the overall show and setlist were mediocre.

They picked the wrong show from the right tour for this release.

Definitely a shame given Dreaming Tree, Pig, Bartender and Raven were also around that tour, and all played great. Plus, #41 was still incredible that tour.
At least 5 better shows they could've picked.

Could be better, could be worse.

Need a late 2000 or early 2002 next, please.

What is it you were all looking for in a Spring 09 show? Again it was the #1 rarity show of that tour. Performances were incredible, set is consistent with the 2009 Spring tour. You can argue the first show (4/14/09) would have been a better pick but beyond that, this is what a 2009 show consisted of.

#1 rairity just means those songs werent played a lot that tour. not that they are particularly rare overall.

I think its pretty clear what people are looking for: Blue Water, Dreaming Tree, Raven, the MSG Show, the Vegas show, etc.

I understand that, but how can you judge a show for its rarity across all DMB shows ever played when its in the context of the tour and what is being played at the time?

In other words, if you're disappointed because its a Spring '09 show, understood, I get it. I'd rather of had a September 2000 show personally.

But if you complaining that the show isn't a quality 2009 Spring tour show, well, you'd be wrong.

Side note, the Carter/Lawlor intro to R&R was very fun to witness live.

Some decent stuff in there, but overall a bland selection. You have so many other gems in that Spring tour to pick from - that opening week was fire.

Maybe its a special show and people just dont know about it yet, I'd love to be proven wrong. It just looks like it doesnt include what most people would have wanted from a Spring 2009 show. It has the BW songs, but so does 1000 other releases we have.

And maybe I am missing or forgetting the other shows folks like better. I know 4/14/2009 was solid. What are some others?

MSG, Cville, Vegas n2, and a couple others would be in the running. But honestly, you're right, there aren't shows that are light-years better than this one. For me, MSG is the only one I'd really want over this one, because I'm big on having Raven, Melissa, Pig, Recently, #41, and Two Step, all in one show.

2009 was a great year. I saw them 5x: Camden, Jones Beach twice, Iowa and Tinley Park. This COULD be a good show? I have not heard it. Or if I did it was 12 years ago.

I've listened since '09, but not recently. I remember it being a good show because the band was great on the tour in general. It's not the show people including me would pick, but people have listed 5 or 6 different shows from a 13 date tour, it's not like they played poorly this one show surrounded by the others. If you don't hate the set, you'll like the show because they came out that tour on fire. If you do hate the set, then it'll be like the Portugal 07 where they play songs you don't like really well.

Lol are we still pretending that means anything? You can just look at the set and see that nothing of note or interesting rarity was played. Set sucks.

Daveís voice was completely shot by the time they made it to Vegas in Ď09. Definitely donít want those shows released.

Debut of a song that was played full band like twice, debut of another way more popular song that was only played that way twice, Rhyme with Joe Lawlor, So Much > Billies, then other Spring 09 highlights like Recently, and Two Step with a great Maker in the encore.

That stuff is "of note" and some is of "interesting rarity."
