Also, I am interested to see what this virus does for our overall death rate. I would think it would start to drop sharply just based on the number of cars off the road and people inside. Of course you’ll have domestic issues and such, but it seems most people will be ‘safer.’

I have a half-baked theory I've been developing for a few days.... This is very macro-level, theoretical, generalized.


Is this pandemic a sort of natural, ecosystem response to over-population and climate change?

Losing 3% of the world population does a lot to reduce our carbon footprint, fossil fuel consumption, creeping spread of development into wildreness, etc.

Well, that was sort of what raised my question. For years people like my dave and comedians like Bill Burr have said either we needed something like this to thin the herd or the planet would ‘self correct.’ We couldn’t destroy the planet. As dave said, “the earth will shake the human population off like a fly on a dog and be just fine.” But maybe this will actually do the opposite?

Haven’t read the thread yet. The whole thing is absolutely retarded virtue signaling #flattenthecurve. Yup, the virus is serious and the hospitals will get clogged. But is it worth taking our bubble economy and forcing our country into depression? Is it worth handing over all your rights to martial law? Um no. A lot of the people who die of corona are going to die of something very soon anyway. That's part of being old. If the at risk populations stay inside and isolate themselves, there's no reason that healthy people should be locked in their houses and force a global depression. And speaking of the numbers coming out of Italy...they're on lockdown but still reporting record breaking days. We have no data point of any country just letting this thing run its course so no way to do how much giving a fuck actually helps. The economic repercussions of this thing are going to be WAY worse than the virus. Just fucking wait.

The point was that the proposed policy (rent abatement) isn't as helpful as it seems because so many small business owners are also landlords, therefore the policy undercuts itself. It's just shuffling deck chairs around instead of creating a positive change
