Prince Fielder to the Tigers. Wow. Nine years, $214 million.
Glad he didn't land in NL East. |

you guys got rid of Pujols and Fielder. That's a good offseason in and of itself!

And Theo and Jed have made some solid, solid moves. It wont reflect in W/L next year, but it will in 3-4 years. Very nice offseason for the Cubs. Love having a front office that isn't clueless.

well actually pujols and fielder probably produce quite a bit more than the entire astros team combined, so maybe that's a bad thing

Never underestimate Scott Boras.
AL Central is in trouble. Also, this offseason makes the AL so much stronger than the NL. It can't even be debated now. |

The thing about it is, I really don't think the deal is that good of a move for the Tigers. Granted, if I was a Tigers fan I would be ecstatic, for sure... but 9 years is crazy, and let's face it - Fielder isn't mister physique. Sure, he can DH the last few years if need be, but I don't know...
Plus, when VMart is back in 2013, there is going to be a bit of a logjam.

9 years and that much money is crazy. This move immensely helps their offense, but now they have some defensive problems in the field.
Miggy at 3rd base? Yikes. Fielder has avoided major injuries so far (i think), so that's definitely an issue over the next 9 years. As he remains pretty overweight, and starts to age, i'm sure injuries could become a problem. |

He's only missed 13 baseball games since 2006. That is astonishing.

He'll come back just fine. Maybe a slight dip in production, but that guy is pure heart. He'll work his ass off.
Then you're definitely looking at Miggy at 3rd, Prince 1st, and VMart DH-ing. As for this year though, if you have Miggy and Peralta on the left side, they are going to give up A LOT of infield hits. Peralta has no range, and I seriously doubt Miggy is going to be very effective at the hot corner. Certainly not right away.

that infield defense- fielder, (raburn?), peralta, miggy- is gonna be awful. stay away from rick porcello in fantasy leagues- big groundballer who doesn't get enough K's.

I mean Miggy was pretty bad at 3rd in 07...Now he's gained some weight - could be some rough times over there.
and, god, Porcello's k/9 rate is terrible. It was 5.14 in 2011. 51.4% GB%, too. I will definitely stay away from him in my fantasy league. |

It's an ugly contract, but it will be well worth it with a ring in the next few years. They want to win asap. With that offense + prime Verlander, this is their shot. A WS title will pay for the rest of his salary.
