The core problem with both Shake Me and Belly is Dave. The lyrics stink. Even Blackjack would be better if not for Dave

There are a few songs where new lyrics wouldn't save them though, like Steady and Smooth.

Want to talk about an underrated song? This is the latest one. Damn, it's criminally underappreciated around here. Love it. The moodiness alone gets my vote.

The Riff?? Respectively disagree, can’t stand that song. Verses good, the rest is bad IMO.

Edit. My bad. I thought you meant the song, the riff.

He was clearly stating the R&R riff was up there.

Which is true.

Yes. The lyrics are among his worst (and that's saying something)

Oh shit, you're right.

That song should have been called The Rift 'cause clearly it's about such things.

I think it's actually one of the best studio tracks they've done. One of the many things I love about the cut is the way Lillywhite placed Tim's slide throughout the tune making it sound like harmonized vocal hums that really elevate that, as you said, spooky feel. It's just a killer track, imo.

The Riff is awful dad rock pretending to sound like King Crimson.

R&R agreed is one of the band's overall best songs. It's definitley in my top 20. I love dark Dave and dark DMB the best. Stone, Rhyme, Dreaming Tree, Help Myself, Halloween...Dave just really used to be great at writing that stuff.

This. Rhyme is a great song and a classic Dave riff. And I also enjoy BBN: as someone else said, not really looking for deep-Dave on this one, just a fun ditty Do not read this post as a comparison of the two at all.

BBN is anything but fun at a show. Fun is a Seek Up opener.

A Seek Up opener is the most fun. So is a Stone or DT opener. BBN in the 3-6 slot of a show is also fun. Different kind but still fun.

I mean to each their own, but I’ve sat down during BBN before. Not a song I want to hear like at all. I hate it.

BBN is harmless and released at a point in the band's career when you weren't really expecting brilliance... it's a good version of SMLAM. I can't imagine being offended by BBN.

SMLAM though... a straight up offensive closer... But the studio cut is good.

BBN would be just as bad a closer, IMO. Theyíre the same in every way to me.

The studio cut of BBN is better than the studio cut of Shake Me. Obviously Lillywhite ftw.

Shame there's no tape.
