ED is a well produced pop-album..much different than the grass roots, homey kind of feel with DMB's previous albums..and certainly much more optimistic than BTCS. However, SU is not comparable..SU is truly shit. I am convinced. The songs on SU matured live a little...but the album is just fucking horrid.

This is an interesting thread because it asks whether or not everyday is a good album based on merit alone. In that sense, I think it’s a solid record.

But it’s impossible to listen to the album without constantly being reminded that this is not DMB, it’s a dave solo album, and it marked a major transition to the band becoming an afterthought in the album writing process. So for that reason, I hate everyday.

I don’t think it’s a great dmb album but I also don’t dislike it. I wasn’t here for it to drop but I will admit it brought dmb into my consciousness with the space between. I didn’t particularly like the song but I think the vma/trl performance is what made me fully aware of dmb.

Plus we got our hands on the LWS.

Looking back on it, it certainly isnít as bad as SU, but boy when it came out...

I wonder if it would have had such a bad wrap back then had we not known about LWS

I think it still would have been bad. I mean all the 2000 tunes and then...

I've always thought Everyday was a solid experiment. I like a bunch of songs from it. Rarely revisit it though.

Didn't used to be a hot take but I feel like it is now: this album is hot garbage.

Everyday isn’t hot garbage. Stand up is. There’s some complex stuff going on ED even though the songs are short and shiny, some songs have held up well. Stand up is garbage on fire.

Yeah there are some respectable songs on ED, depending on your taste

I think these all have some redeeming qualities:

WTWE
Space Between
Dreams of our Fathers
What You Are
Fool to Think
Sleep to Dream Her
Everyday
So Right
If I Had It All

Stand Up has...

American Baby
Louisiana Bayou
Everybody Wake Up

Definitely. If LWS hadn’t existed, ED still would have been a drastic change in the DMB sound, and absolutely an unwanted change. But hearing LWS first was like salt in the wound

Both records stink. Both have a handful of songs which have aged well, but it’s mostly bad Dmb.

Stand Up is the worse record, but everyday still stings worse for me. And the Band never really recovered (creatively) from it.

For me, when you’re debating if ED is better or worse than SU, you could argue SU is worse bc musically it’s an inferior record. But you could also argue ED is worse bc it marked the end of DMB as we knew it.

Yeah. Stand Up is the worse record in terms of songwriting, production, etc. There's no doubt there.

In terms of DMB's legacy, Everyday is definitely the turning point. And all the cringe that came with it, including the TRL appearance. For that, I'll always hate everyday the most.

SU is a much worse album than ED. ED was a much bigger let down/change.
