That was a fail in Boston last fall.

guys we could name tons of examples to the contrary but that doesn't mean it's not generally a good rule to follow.

12.7.98 also comes to mind. I think it trumps night 2 in Worcester.

Since there are tons, maybe it's not a good rule to follow.

Yea definitely. I've done Hartford the last 5 years and I think there was only 1 year when a N1 was even in the conversation of being as good as N2. However, tix were a bit tough to come by for MSG so I had to settle for just going the first night.

There have been a few two nighters I've been to where I preferred night 1:

8/7/03 Gorge
9/12/06 Pepsi Center Denver
9/14/07 WPB

But way more often than not, night 2 wins.

I think the point youre making here is fine, but CLEARLY people are putting this show on a pedestal. Every single page since the show ended has people saying how this was one of the top shows they have seen.

Its a great sounding show, i just wasnt there so dont feel the need to try and temper what people are saying i guess.

Oh for sure. There's always exceptions but N2 being better has probably been true the vast majority of the time.

I'm sure there's someone here obsessive enough to look back at a good range of two night stands and give us some stats on that.

Either way there's always been shows like this; really great if you were there, hard to get if you weren't, and that makes the people who were there get defensive. So you end up with an overhyped show.

I think this is the best version of Everyday ever. Just my opinion, but I'd be curious to hear any arguments or contenders against it.

^ I support your opinion of this. This was an amazing performance, I loved the way Vusi was playing off the crowd

A "had to be there" thing. I assume.

It's Everyday + some bumbling dude.

Not really. Musically I feel there's some great stuff going on too, including some pretty nifty Tim fills, and Boyd playing some non-wah violin in the outro jam. Also, the interaction between the crowd, Dave and Vusi is amazing. The whole performance just has that peak joyfulness that makes this song what it is at its best. I won't put this show up on a pedestal (it ain't perfect), but I will put this one single performance on a pedestal. Six months later, the one track I'm still listening to a lot from this show is Everyday (in a set with Pig, Last Stop, #41 > Say Bye, BOWA, etc). I've never liked any Everyday that much before, ever. Usually I skip it when listening to shows.

I actually do like what Tim has subtly added to that song since 2008. Although I'd still never want to see it again.

I agree with every point you made here.

Which is probably a first

Seriously though, to quote myself from my review of the show here: [Only registered users can see links.]

Everyday - I know this looks rough after Blackjack but it wasn't. I was pretty sure this was coming anyway. I saw Vusi during his first guest spot in '06 and, while it was fun, he was a little tentative. Not this time. Keep in mind this is coming from somebody who despised this song for most of '05-'07. I still can't believe I'm about to write this, but this was absolutely one of the highlights of the night. I was totally into it. Vusi was fantastic. The band sounded great. The energy was ridiculous. I'm not given to hyperbole but this has to be one of the best versions of this song they've ever done.

Was this particular video of Everday released for something, or is there a proshot tape of the night circulating the boards?
