Yeah there are a lot of shows I like that are still fantastic past season 5. All these shows:
Simpsons
Seinfeld
South Park
The Office
Bob's Burgers
King of the Hill
American Dad
Curb Your Enthusiasm

A lot of animated shows, likely because characters don't age, so the show overall doesn't change much either.

Funny you mention Family Guy. When I go back and watch seasons 1 and 2 especially, they're pretty terrible. The jokes are lame and forced. At the time, it felt groundbreaking, but it does not hold up. I genuinely prefer Family Guy in the few seasons right after it was brought back in 2005.

South Park has always been up and down, depending on how inspired Matt and Trey are feeling in the given year, and what they're going through. My favorite South Park seasons are 4-11, then season 19. Season 20 was awful, and they've been pretty consistently okay in seasons 21 onward.

What I appreciate about South Park is how it's willing to take chances, and grow/change. For example, the pre-movie seasons are (in retrospect) pretty terrible. It's purely stupid dick, fart, cruelty jokes. Which makes perfect sense because it reflects Matt and Trey being in their 20s. It gets better as it goes, and they're not afraid to own up to their own past stupidity and ignorance. For example, they hate the first 3 seasons now. They also regret how they treated global warming with Manbearpig and fixed it two seasons ago. You'll also notice they don't toss "gay" and "fag" around anymore, where it's rampant in the first dozen or more seasons.

Dexter is coming back. I never watched the original series, but I imagine this is big news.

I’ve never seen it either, but I have a vague memory that pretty much everyone thought that show overstayed its welcome by a couple of seasons.

Did more than that. It actually offended its viewers and my wife says worst finale ever.

“We aren’t going to talk about Dexter. I’m pretending I never saw that cursed article today.“

Dexter was awesome. I can’t remember if it was the whole last season or just the finale that was awful but the series as a whole was really great.

I’m thrilled it’s coming back to right the wrong.

The John Lithgow season 4 was one of the best seasons of TV I can remember enjoying.

Seasons 1-4 were terrific. There was a sudden and steep decline immediately after that.

Yeah, that was a masterpiece. 1-4 left an impression.

Is anyone else watching the new season of Fargo? Because it’s probably the best thing on TV right now.

I stopped after the 1st episode, I thought it was an awful start to the season. I loved the first 3 seasons.

I think itís good so far. Heavy exposition in the beginning, but I think it was necessary. Eager to see what happens after the ending of last ep.

season 1 of Lovecraft Country was awesome. I need to do a rewatch (and pay a little more attention) so I can catch things I missed.

also still want to plug Ted Lasso on Apple TV. probably my favorite show I've watched this year.
