I've got a problem.

In 3D was the first vinyl LP I ever owned, I was 9 at the time but there's still some great tracks on Al's albums, usually the ones that are his own.

Wasting the day in old Frederick, Maryland waiting for a wedding tonight. Stopped in to this basement record shop, called Vinyl Acres, run by an old guy who turned out to be the drummer for a band called Grin, who toured with many known bands in the early 70s.

I immediately stumbled on the Dead's Anthem of the Sun and we immediately got on a conversation where he was telling me stories of being in SF in '67 and seeing the Family Dog show (that he didn't realize was the BFRSD release last year), and playing pool with Kruetzman and Joplin at local bars.

He's on discogs and I'll be buying some stuff from him in the future. I picked up a few while I was there too, he's only been trying his hand at this for a few months basing it on used record sales as he doesn't have enough turnover yet to participate in all the reissue 180g new material, his daughter runs the shop with him. This was the coolest store experience I've ever had.

FYI, there were several Dead shows at the Family Dog, which was a venue. Based on what you said, he may have been at one of the earlier ones.

Yeah, I had asked if it was the show that was released last year, he didn't recall knowing about such a release (as he's only now returning to the vinyl game). I asked if Pigpen was featured as a solo act, he said "Perhaps..."

Who knows. But we had a lengthy conversation. His band's guitarist now plays for Springstein and they all know Neil Young well after being brought on by Neil to record with his producer. Their stuff isn't too bad, they're on iTunes.

Anyway, highlight of my trip so far.

I'm working on the Nickel Creek discography now. Grabbed their self-titled, it sounds incredible.

Nice, I think Why Should the Fire Die is going to be ordered next. Then, by the time the new one is physically available, I'll grab that and round it out with 'This Side.'

Has the Pro-ject Debut Carbon always been $400? Or was it $500 before?

I'm not really sure, to be honest.

Hopefully I can pick up Similar Skin. I'd love to jam out to that thing on headphones at some point.

If you haven't got a chance to check out the new Musical Energi location across from Boscov's in Wilkes-Barre yet, you should. I was impressed with the new set up. He now has like 6 or 7 rows of new/re-release stuff, which is decently priced in comparison to the old stuff.

Nice, I'll probably get down there sometime within the next week or so. Just got LZ 1 and 2 at the Mundy St. Gallery of Sound for $21.99 each.
