Agree with you all that it lost some of it's punch but overall, I like it. I don't really mind the strings or the slower pace. Dave sound good. Also wish the horns were more prevalent, Carter was used more and no fadeout.

Basically that it wasn't a Dave + session musicians song...

So we can thank Evans for producing that garbage.

I will say it's one catchy chorus. Been stuck in my head - as the live version was after C'ville.

But I don't care for the production overall. This could have been much better.

Yeah. Man, I hope the band is more utilized on other songs we haven't heard yet. Like you all, I am so damn nervous about IOY.

Easily. Funkier, no strings, and no fade out.

I like the strings. Funkier, no fadeout, more Carter.
That’s the problem with roadtesting. The studio cuts are rarely as good.

What are the odds the band is putting out earlier versions of these songs for now? Theyve done it before

Given the proximity to release I'd say these are definitely the final mixes

Are you referring to the April Big Whiskey sessions?

These are being put on spotify, YouTube and other streaming services. not the same thing.

Gaucho is the only time I can remember them officially releasing something that was changed later

Gotta say, I love Dave's vocals on this one, especially in the last chorus. Especially since his vocals were always the issue live in 2016. I also really like the strings and the airy, soaring vibe the song has overall. Very different from the live versions, but that's what the studio brings. I think VITR will be handled really well.

Yeah, Dave sounds good on this and Samurai. The other one... not so much.

Really lacks the swagger of the live versions... I guess that could be said for many of their studio tracks,
Every song released so far fails capturing their live feel which surprises me... especially the lack of Jeff on this one.

Finally getting to listen to this (having a baby will eat up your day). I’m honestly surprised by how much I like this. It could definitely be better with better drumming, more horns and a better bridge/solo (that part is really bad). But although it’s a different take on the song, I feel like the sort of ‘70s AM radio vibe still works.

I will say that I don’t like the fact that the three songs we’ve heard from the album have varied from Samurai Cop’s fine but flat production, to TGIY’s rough, practically-a-demo quality production, to this arguably over-produced track. It definitely feels like this was put together without a lot of thought about cohesion or, you know, tempo variation.
