Good point. But it would be weird to have Dave not play for those solo E1 songs, right?

Then don't play those songs.

Nothing as crazy as the Too Much change back in... (When was that?) I can’t remember.

The keys were jamming. The Hammond mostly (LOVE). I honestly forgot about the lack of violin.

Bottom line, trust their pick here. I’m already in love with Buddy Strong!

Edit to add: These were not full songs. Some were but there was a lot of stops and restarts. “Let’s try this” kind of thing. Lots of “let’s focus on this jam”.

I think that’s a positive. That’s work. They’re making sure that they can fit this new member in and it sounds great.
Did Buddy cover Boyd’s parts on Too Much? I bet the organ + Tim on Too Much was orgasmic

All piano songs should be E1

There was no Too Much today. I was referencing to when the band changed up the refrain and slowed it down a lot. 2010? I can’t remember.

But that was in reference to the question “have they changed up arrangements”. The anshort answer is not as drastically as that Too Much change.

Remove violin, add keys and horns.

But it works. It’s awesome.

I don’t think much is going to change just because this guy is playing. We’ll get some keyboard solos instead of violin and instead of guitar on every song which will be good for variety and help fill stuff out, but that’s all I’d really expect. And to be honest, this is actually going to limit them and make the catalog smaller because the dude can’t learn 200 songs in a few weeks, especially not the intricacies. Took Butch like 3-4 years to find his proper place in the band. Same with Coffin. Doesn’t matter how good he is

But maybe he actually speak up and tell the band certain songs suck. I’ll hope for that:

No one on Earth in his position would do that.

Also, I guarantee, someday there will be an interview where he lists a few favorites and they'll all be garbage.

If he’s a batson suggested guy (is he?) wouldn’t be surprised at all if he loves Stand Up and those songs.

Coffin’s role was better when he first started. It was new and interesting. It felt like the band was letting him try things. Years later, his “proper place” seems to be throttled by the music director to be a part of a horn section rather than an individual creative voice in the band.

2004 they added the breakdown and extended outro. 2007 they made it super slow. 2008 they removed the breakdown when they played it with Tim

I’m excited. I like how having a keyboard leaves space for Boyd to come back. I actually think he will come back now and hopefully not stoned out of his mind. We’ve dogged him quite a bit, but it’d really suck to lose another founding member

Also, can we get more clarity why Peters and JustinK got invited to this rehearsal?

Is it through the band, through industry connections, through venue connections? randomly walking through a park?

I would guess that if they wanted us to have that information, we’d probably have it.

I don't know JustinK, but Peters is definitely not one to stir the pot for the sake of attention. If he has info, he's genuinely sharing it so others would know what's currently happening. So just a quick heads-up so as to not treat him like a Mr. Rumblings.

Yeah, i’ll Clear that up. I was texting Peters (and a few other people) some updates. Peters wasn’t there. I was just taking notes and keeping a few people updated.

I came down with fever/chills in bed last night. Not sure if I will make it out today. Although it seems the fever might be breaking right now. I need to get some food and fluids. See how I feel in a few hours.

I don’t remember if I posted this last night, but here it is.

About three hours total. 30 minute break.

Set 1 (70 minutes):

Rapunzel
Drive In Drive Out
Space Between
<Unknown / New Song- cool horn riff - high medium low, high medium low>
Louisiana Bayou (keys sounded killer)
The Song That Jane Likes

30 minute break.

Jamming/warmup (15 minutes)

Set 2 (80 minutes):

Smooth Rider jam (no Dave, funky)
Best of What’s Around (no Dave)
Shake Me Like A Monkey
Shake Me Outro jam
