Yeah I have no clue if this guy is good, but I like the Idea of keys in dmb again. Hopefully he will be decent, and It will be a change in the sound that is for the better.

I still won't believe that Facebook post 100% until he is actually on stage or the band announces it officially.

I’m going to probably go to the tour opener. They’re gonna come out with a new sound, count me in

Siccccckkkk. To everybody who says DMB is a nostalgia act: if that was true they’d be getting another violin. Instead they’re trying to evolve and take their sound in another direction. It’s good to see the band finally making a good decision

I think this was a good move. I was worried tim would get overbearing trying to compensate.

On the face of it this is really good news. Just like when Greppson first posted it a few days ago, it certainly seems legit, but I’m still not counting it as 100% until we have more info.

I’m glad it isn’t butch. We’re trying to move forward here. think having a younger highly talented dude who seems to be known for pushing people is a good thing. Rashawn has turned into a joke, but remember when he first joined he was definitely pushing for interesting segues and lit a spark.

Also tbe fact that he’s a founding member of the greteful dead. That’s cool too.

It will be interesting to see what happens. Butch and Tim have had a huge influence over the DMB’s sound. Sometimes for the better sometimes for the worse. Rashawn certainly has, but more so on the back end. Coffin seemed to slip under his lead, which is disappointing. I was always hoping he would be let loose creatively (early on he had some nice moments, but he’s more of a background player and I just didn’t expect that with him). Hopefully a new member on the keys can strike a good balance, but it will be an interesting ride as they figure out how to integrate and play off of him.

Also glad it isn’t Butch. He brought a lot to DMB, but there were drawbacks and the sound became tired when he would double Dave’s parts or draw the energy out of several tunes. Ray Paczkowski would have been welcome, too. I enjoyed him on D&F.

I prefer Butch just because he’s a known quantity. I know I like him with DMB. I don’t know this new guy. That doesn’t mean that I’m not happy, or even excited, about the prospect of adding someone new. Replacing Boyd with keys is something that opens up a lot of possibilities. Good ones. If nothing else, I’ve been saying since Minneapolis that the only option I wouldn’t be happy with would be no replacement. This is undeniably a promising development.

Now that I like. I could see him and Carter having some fun together.

I didn’t know that about Ray. That’s sad news to hear. I hope he makes a full recovery.

So this isn’t confirmed right? We’re beleiving this based off a FB post? Guys... I mean, maybe that dude meant he’s just going guest on a few shows, not join the band for an entire tour.

If it is true, not sure I like it. Just because he may be really good and talented doesn’t mean it’ll be a good fit. While I do like keys with DMB, it’s not going to replace violin. Still would rather them hire a violin player or go no violin and evolve their sound from within without bringing someone else in. Can’t argue that it makes things much more interesting though if it’s true.

Buddy supposedly posted on Instagram saying he had a big announcement but later took it down. Sounds like 95%

Seems like the band is going to sound more like D&F, but with a sax added. Should be interesting. Having keys full-time will make this tour interesting, especially the first few shows.

I'd prefer Butch. Especially if some '06 or '04 songs come out on the album, it'd be like he never left. Having lost what's essentially a founding band member, I'd be nice to keep the music sounding as familiar as possible. How we don't lose a key instrument and then also have a wildly new sound on keys.

I came into this thread thinking that this was an album track that leaked.

I am happy that wasn't the case.

Itís fantastic news. A young master of the keys? The band just went ahead and got a LOT more interesting. Buddy and Carter will rip it. Letís bring Two Step back to its finest form. Arguing against this is absolutely absurd imo.
