Nah, I always think that has been a pretty standard opinion: "Could have been pretty okay, but..."

I listened to the Angel last night. I kept waiting for it to get good. Carter was fairly interesting for the last minute or two, but that was about it. I still just can't enjoy the extended versions of that song with the ladies.

EDIT: I remember listening to that show back in 2001, and I think it was the longest show on record at the time. There are several great, unique performances of Everyday songs with the Flecktones (minus Vic) on there, like Space Between and STD Her, that I'd rather have than this Angel. But at least we're getting that killer BEF/Bartender on the next disc!

But but Roi. Dude’s unmistakable.

Of course when Roi came in and when I heard a little bit from Butch I knew I was wrong, but the first 30 seconds when it's just really Dave and Carter it sounds right out of an acoustic set.

So happy to get this LLD. It's the last one Roi ever played on.

Pretty much same thing happened with me.

I went and looked the show up only because as stated it sounded almost acoustic. Wanted to see what the rest of the set looked like.

Well at least I know that when my disc arrives in September, it'll be worth listening to.

I had a good time at that one, and the set was good if you pretend they didn’t have time for an encore.

Exactly my thoughts. I remember when Angel was considered the worst song in the band's catalog, but now it's moved somewhere in the middle. Just goes to show you how far the songwriting has fallen. I'd gladly take 5 min Angel at a show over pretty much everything on Stand Up and even a lot of stuff from the last few albums. Hell, I'd probably take a 15 min Angel over a 12 minute Mercy.

Yea Angel is still firmly in bottom tier of dmb failures. "call you up, you pick up" folks, remember. unfortunately it was an early glimpse of what was to become pretty regular for Dave.

I loved angel. Lyrically it’s trash, but the music is beautiful. Reminded me of something Hendrix would have wrote.

I think “Dreamgirl” is better than Angel.

That’s just rude.

Angel had potential, dream girl was dead in the water at the beginning.

If they hadn’t done the 10+ minute versions of angel and it was short and sweet like on the album people would love it.

You guys don’t have any interest in hearing what Tim could do to angel?

Angel had potential in that it has a good guitar riff. Everything that they built on top of that riff is terminally dull and cliched. The only way to save that song would be to tear it down to the guitar and completely redo everything else. And somehow make it so that those 10 minute-plus versions never happened.

Yeah the riff is the only worthwhile thing there, that’s more than you can say about some of the newer stuff

I hate Dreamgirl but some of the '05 versions have killer outros with Roi.
