5-7-16 Set Picks/Discussion (John Paul Jones Arena, Charlottesville, VA)

2016 Summer Tour: Show #1
5/7/2016
John Paul Jones Arena
Charlottesville, VA

Show Begins @ 8:00 pm EST

Spoiler:

Dave Matthews Band will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a special hometown benefit concert at John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, VA on Saturday, May 7. To express its gratitude for the incredible support the community has provided from the beginning, the band will donate all net proceeds from the concert, totaling over $1 million, to charitable programs in the Charlottesville area via its Bama Works Fund.

In 1999, Dave Matthews Band established the Bama Works Fund at the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation and has subsequently contributed a portion of each concert ticket sold to the fund. To date, the fund has raised more than $40 million and made over 1,300 grants, primarily to charitable programs in the Charlottesville area community. It has also responded to a variety of national and international needs.

Gotta say, Hello Again would likely blow the roof off the place as an opener. Or hell, even the Last Stop. And, call me crazy, but I'd really love to see True Reflections come out this year. Jeff can do some serious damage on that one.

Whatever happens, this show will set the tone for the year and I can't say I'm not excited (I guess the same thing happens each year for most of us.)

It really doesn't. Objects in mirror are closer than they appear.

I wouldn't say it shows that uppers are bad, per-se; looks like lowers/floor are really close.

uppers should be fine with a smaller arena like this

i was up top, boyd's side, in 06 when the random guy walked on stage. Seats were fine, i also had a great view of seeing that debacle take place

Yeah I remember seeing Carter's reaction going from extremely concerned to extremely pissed. Quite a few people in the first few rows were nervous as well. Also sucked seeing the setlist halfway through the show knowing what was coming and then...that happened. fuck that guy.

Still confused why they had to cut the Last Stop over that. They still played Stay and were out on stage for 7-10 mins after he got onstage during ABI. It's not like they immediately needed to leave the stage

Carter was extremely upset, as was management and the fact that he wasn't some random fan rather a very creepy/scary looking guy, it just caused a scramble backstage and if I remember correctly about a year later someone in the crew said no one knew if there were other random people hiding backstage/near the stage and they didn't want to chance it, so at the last minute right when Dave was about to switch guitars for Last Stop, they decided to just end it quickly and get out of there.

And there were definitely more than one, because a group of them were walking around some of the hotel lots that weekend approaching groups of fans. I don't remember if they were some weird religious cult or what, but I do remember them.
