Supposed to appear after the Olympics on the BBC. First though, four new documentaries : [Only registered users can see links.]

I have been reading that it is 5 episodes, break until the Christmas Special and then the remaining 7 or 8 episodes in early 2013.

Are these going to be real documentaries or just the BS stuff they had before last season like "The Companions", "The Villains", etc?

And yeah I'd heard similar things about the schedule. Can't wait to see what Moffat has up his sleeve for the 50th Anniversary next year.

I am hoping they are real.

Here is some interesting stuff on the 50th: [Only registered users can see links.]

Though, I don't know how stoked I am about just specials... Perhaps it will lead to more epic things like the rumored Tom Baker return, or a Tennant return, or so many awesome things I want to see!

Ugh that sucks. I want a real series, not more specials.

I never thought I'd see the day where Doctor Who would make the cover of a mainstream US publication.

Love the show.

Yeah, agreed... I also hope that a series of specials (does not) lead to Smith's departure ala Tennant...

Me too and I LOVED Tennant. Smith had me won over by the end of the Eleventh Hour though

Wouldn't call myself a Whovian but I do watch the show. Glad they're bringing in a new companion half way through this season. Not saying I hate the Ponds just think it is the right time.

The Ponds most definitely need to go.

Do not want Karen Gillan to leave my TV set.

Also Rory is the best companion.

There is a slight chance Karen Gillan could show up in the Inspector Spacetime Convention episode. Atleast she would be open to it.

Tennant plays it very broad both in terms of comedy and drama, but you really just wind up loving him. Smith just nails the gravity of the role though. Smith > Tennant > Eccleston for me

Eccleston was a completely different take on the character -- from the costume to the attitude -- and it really worked to give the reboot a clean-break from the old show's history.

Tennant was good, but he had a tendency to base his portrayal too closely on previous actors (notably Tom Baker and Patrick Troughton). He also, for whatever reason, had a lot of hit/miss scripts (especially in Season 3).

Smith has been fantastic. Can't say enough how much I've loved his work thus far. He plays the role with just the perfect amount of quiet, something Tenant really never seemed to master. It gives his Doctor an edge that's never been present in the show's history.

The only thing that I wished Tennant could've done was the speech at Stonehendge (Guess who?), but the speech at the end by Smith fucking kills me every time. He absolutely nails it
