Dave Matthews Band 4.0

Now that the 2018 tour is over, for the first time in 6 years, I'm amped up about what they're sounding like. If they tour for a few more years and continue in this direction, I'll officially wipe mid-to-late 3.0 from my memory bank.

Also, I'd love the violin back, just not Boyd's. A new violin would take this sound to about as high as it can get without bringing Bela out full time.

These guys sound really great.

Agreed.

I may be in the minority but they still need violin IMO

They sound awesome right now, I agree. Three things I'd wish going forward:
  1. Violin
  2. More Jeff; Less Rashawn
  3. Better Setlist Writing

I'd guess #1 is the only thing with a legitimate chance of happening.

i thoroughly enjoyed seeing them this Summer, but had a pretty bad experience watching them a couple weeks ago in Boston - tail of 2 setlists I guess...I also enjoyed the Come Tomorrow songs more than most

Totally agree

But mostly more Jeff. Giving him the Billies solo was a great start. I'd love to hear him on Crush and #41 again for starters.

Taking those 41 solos away from Jeff is imo the most criminal thing 3.0 did.

Hit the nail on the head for sure. They need to let Jeff take some of these solo spots..I miss hearing the Sax on Crush and 41 big time. He doesn't need to have a 10 min solo like he used to have, but just give him one. Violin would really help the overall sound, could be the best they've ever sounded if they could do that.

Setlists are insanely hit or miss, but I think that's more the product of having such a giant catalog with a lot of mediocre material. But yeah I saw 3 shows this year and one was one of the best sets I've ever seen, and one was probably one of the worst I've ever seen. How that's possible in the same tour, literally weeks apart is just crazy.

Definitely crazy but I'd take that risk 8 days a week over the same show every night. If they played the show every night all tour, I'd go to one show. The risk is what it's all about with these guys.

No doubt, I definitley prefer the mixing up of sets. People forget that when you change up the sets a lot from night to night, there are going to be nights that don't flow and have duds. It's the luck of the draw and one of the downsides to doing that. But yeah, I hate bands that play the same exact set or close to it (which is pretty much every band). It's just boring and gives me no reason to follow them or pay attention at all.

I agree with those points but I won’t be hear broken if there’s no violin. I don’t think they need

Jones Beach was one of the worst shows, worst flows, weakest sets after a strong start, all in all one of the worst experiences I've had in a long time at a show.

Then PNC the next night was a freight train and a ton of fun. Literally back to back shows with totally different experiences.

I'm cool without the violin, I'd rather they continue down the path they are on. Get Rashawn to squeak less and allow Jeff to shine more, which was starting to kinda happen in the winter tour shows I saw.

I agree with you guys. I really don't care about the violin at this point. Give me electric guitar, funky keys, and sax.

It would be cool if Dave came out for an e1 with just jeff for a song. Or just dave and carter. Even dave and Tim.

I could be mistaken, but was there ever a poll on the whole same setlist every show debate?

I thought I remember someone saying a while back what if they played BTCS in its entirety since itís been 20 years since itís release plus one song from every other album and would people go to numerous shows if that was an entire summer tour
