Aside from LITHOG, I don't think Big Whiskey songs got that much better either.

WIA, Spaceman, LITHOG, FTWII (2011-12), Seven and Time Bomb I find generally better live if only because most of them have extra solos.

At least BW songs have some energy to them, and don't drag on as long. I think Squirm is fantastic live, much better than the album, LITHOG has a nice Jeff jam added and the other songs while played almost identical to the album are at least short and pack some punch and don't totally tear the energy of the show down like Mercy, The Riff, Come Tomorrow, Samurai etc. I could go on.

I agree with your point, although id swap If Only for the Riff in that list.

Seeing the Riff in vegas last Feb was actually a welcomed change of pace. They havent been playing it to death in the last 2 years, and without boyd its seemed to have a nice build to it. It wasnt much different than the studio version, but tim did take a solo and thats always at least somewhat interesting when its not in place of a solo Roi used to take a la #41.

The Riff makes for a good E1 tune. It's not nearly The Stone, but it's got that same feel.

To me thatís crazy to mention those two in the same sentence. The riff is much more cumbersome, drags on, takes forever to get to the chorus and that chorus is cheesy as hell and lame.

Agreed they are apples and oranges, but i can see the comparison that they are both fruit. Whereas a song like Recently is on another spectrum of song type. The Stone may be their best song IMO.

Oh I get that, but my comparison is that they start quietly and finish heavy. Giving Jeff more heavy lifting on The Riff would be amazing and I think with that, putting it E1 would work like putting The Stone E1 in 2000.

Jeff has the flute solo on the Riff. I actually wish he played the soprano sax on it, but hes never going to approach it like Roi would.

Calling that a solo is generous (ie: inaccurate).
