Yeah. I don't understand it either.

My son sent me this text 2 days ago:

"One of my friends put 7k in crytocurreny yesterday"

I still have no idea wtf he's talking about

Hopefully Wiley doesn’t make enough to buy the DMB back catalog and then hoards it.

There are other cryptocurrency coins out there that are better than bitcoin. I started investing last year and Bitcoin is the last one that I would touch. If anyone ever wants to discuss crypto, I would love to chat about it.

Yep. One of the biggest initial drivers of bitcoin was the use of it for criminal purposes.. now there are currencies like Monero that have much greater privacy controls. I think bitcoin will be surpassed by another currency at some point.

Yea, Monero is great too. I really believe that Ripple will do well too. And a new AI coin, Singularitynet came out recently as well. It looks to be promising.

Malakas, please xplain to me what this all means. We have a dollar currency and we can pay electronically with things like PayPal, Apple Pay etc. Is it just for us buying shady stuff and it canít be traced back to you? And why do people want to invest in it?

Cryptocurrency is often referred to as the stock market 2.0. It's legal and now used for good purposes and it's a global thing with markets in many countries. Here is a site that explains it in pretty good detail:

If you have any questions at all, I would be more than happy to answer them and help out

I’m the biggest believer in technology but crypto is a total joke. We have problems with our financial system in that the cops can empty your bank account for no reason, no privacy, etc...but that is a political problem.

All of the privacy advantages of crypto are nil because the exchanges are pooling the money together under the same “bitcoin account.” Moreover all the entry and exit points - places where dollars change to crypto - are closely regulated. All the hype about new coins is irrelevant, it will face the same problems.

Hate to say it, but millennials are gonna get wiped out the same way baby boomers did in 2000 and 2008. That being said, people made it out before it popped. If you can do that, more power to you.

I think some people are using it as an independent "currency" that's not tied to a government, like gold was commonly used for. However transaction costs, ie $10 to spend it, are too high for frequent use, so it's more of a very speculative short term investment. I wouldn't touch it. A very small amount of people control the majority of bitcoin.
