AMC has announced that the second, Frank Darabont-free season of The Walking Dead will be split into two halves, with the first seven episodes airing this fall and the leftover six debuting February 12. The break ensures that zombies won’t be allowed to befoul the sanctity of the holidays, while also giving viewers another chance to express irrational hatred toward AMC executives if they so wish, as it’s been a couple of weeks. Also confirmed is that the premiere episode will, like last year’s debut, run 90 minutes, at least 20 of which will likely consist of people just sort of staring morosely at each other like they just can’t believe all these zombies, you know? Yes, we know.

Thinking about picking season one up on BD. Have only seen the first episode, without reading back due to spoilers and what not is it worth getting? I'm a big fan of AMC's other shows so just wondering how this rated.

terrible, this idea. i hate chris hardwick

[Only registered users can see links.]

The cheapest, laziest grab for viewers has to be the reality show ploy where the cast of “Real Housewives” or “Jersey Shore” immediately rehashes what happened on a live show immediately following the taped episode. Well, it’s not just a reality show ploy any more: AMC will do the same thing with “The Walking Dead” this fall with a Chris Hardwick-hosted after-show called “Talking Dead.” WOOF.

Fans of The Walking Dead are incredibly engaged with every aspect of the show. They tweet, blog, and post comments in very large numbers, and we wanted to give them an opportunity to interact with the show in a way that they don’t currently have — a kind of live water cooler,” said Joel Stillerman, AMC’s SVP original programming, production and digital content.

Talking Dead will feature Hardwick talking to fans, actors, producers and TV enthusiasts, recapping that most recent Dead episode and taking questions and comments from viewers. “As an enormous fan of both The Walking Dead comic and television show, I pretty much begged for this job,” Hardwick said. [Deadline via ScreenJunkies]

Ugh. With this move, Chris Hardwick has gone from the nerdy, less-funny Joel McHale to the nerdy, less-gay Andy Cohen. No thanks. If I want to discuss “The Walking Dead,” I’ll do it the way it’s supposed to be done: on the Internet with a bunch of faceless strangers.

I thought we'd get to see the farm. It had all the elements to hook viewers: the scares, the gross-outs, the conflict. A great start to season 2.

Watched all of season 1 and tonights episode over the weekend. Pretty good, not great, but def quality show.

Season finale was pretty weak. Season 2 premier dragged a bit in middle.

Curious why we never saw Merle again in season 1.

So do we have any idea what the CDC doc said? Thought he was going to say right at the beginning but it was a pump fake.

i think the most popular theory i heard was that his wife is pregnant. i don't know though.

great premier. fucked up ending. only problem i had is the little girl running off. i fucking hate stupid kids in movies/tv. oh, and the chick that tried to off herself really needs to either die or be more understanding of how awkward that is for others.

The Talking Dead wasn't as terrible as it should have been, mostly because Patton Oswalt can do no wrong and James Gunn is a cool dude himself. Chris Hardwick still sucks though.

i loved Robert Kirman's lack of enthusiasm or care though.

I guess last night's episode was record setting in ratings for a drama on basic cable.

Another theory floating around based on what happened in the comic book (major spoiler from the comic book):

Spoiler:
Everyone is infected already. When you die you become a zombie whether or not you were bitten. Makes sense with the doctor having run the blood tests.
