Woot. Love me some Dead. Told this over at ufck, but in case y'all didn't see it: For years, I used to only listen to jazz, but then once I got into rock, I avoided these guys like the plague because I assumed, by their name, that they were a really hard rock band.

this is the general assumption it seems when people dont know about them. for the most part when someone asks me what the dead sound like, i say a country/bar band.

but im with everyone in this thread. they are far and away my favorite band, i just wish i was old enough to follow and see a ton of shows back in the day.

It's 76 Cow Palace. I missed the stream but am looking forward to hearing it.

I'm all about my Fillmore West Box Set right now. Loving Dark Star on the way to work this morning. Jerry's voice back then was on point.

I think it was Ma$$ that pointed this out to me, in which case kudos to him.

Scarlet Begonias --> Fire on the Mountain 5.8.77

[Only registered users can see links.]

I have no idea if this is like ridiculously widespread or not (not typically a huge Dead fan), but Fire in particular is just filthy.

yup. That is regarded as the greatest dead show ever. Morning Dew from that show is legitimate. Jerry's solo is a life changer.

The whole may run is really good. Help>Slipknot!>Franklins opener from Buffalo the next night is awesome too.

Pretty much that whole Scarlet through Morning Dew run caught me as ridiculous, which I guess if it's the best Dead show ever it probably should.

I should check out more shows from that run.

yea, I think it is new haven (5-5) -> boston garden (5-7) -> cornell (5-8) -> buffalo (5-9). I'm sure they're all up at bt.etree. Grab the betty boards or the charlie miller remixes if you can.

Awesome, thanks man.

What are some other classic runs to check out? Figure I should probably get some shows from a few different eras.

Cornell '77? Oh yeah. Phil's playing on Scarlet is just sick and probably some of the best Jerry solos for those 2 songs. The Row Jimmy on that one is my favorite ever, too.
