Thoughts on next release? I'd like a 74 show. Maybe even another '76.

I'd gladly take another '74, but I'm not anxious for another '76. The upcoming RFK '89 box scratches my itch for a late 80's release, but I'd also take an early Brent-era show. My top choice would be for something mid-73. There's a bunch of great shows between May and Sept. '73 and they have yet to release anything from that span.

love summer '73. Definitely don't care for '76, really just doesnt do much for me. I'd like to see more '71 released. I know there's a bunch already but that entire year to me was awesome. I like Spring '70 too

Listening to Cape Cod 10/28/79. The fantastic previous night was in the 30 Trips box. But lots to love here too, including an awesome 32 minute opening Half Step -> Frankin's combo. An early Brent-era show would be great for the next Dave's Picks. Lots of good 79's and 80's still for him to choose from.

If you need another Ď80 to add to the listening, go with this:

5/7/80 Barton Hall (the place has some pedigree, right?), Set 2

Shakedown >
Bertha
Playiní >
Terrapin >
Drums/Space >
Saint of Circumstance >
Black Peter >
Playiní
Good Loviní

pretty, pretty, pretty, good

(that set is also on one of he Road Trips comps)

Anyway, as great as Ď72 is (and it may be the best), itís not where my Dead head is right now. Driving upstate tomorrow and got the following in the listening queue:

12/28/79 (smoker; one of the few full show RT releases)
6/14/84 Red Rocks (great new CM board)
7/6/84 Alpine (also new CM board)

Yeah, stopping by there tomorrow for a bit and then heading to Albany for a conference on Thursday. Syracuse isnít exactly on the way to Albany from LI, but it is when your kid is there.

It may be unpopular, but Iíve always preferred my Other Ones to be under 10 mins. Some of those Europe 72 versions kind of meander and go nowhere. In any case, I hope they nail the mix and crank up the piano.

Nothing wrong with that. I was just listening to 7/1/78 (this great one-set show was the revelation of the July '78 box) and they pack a hell of a punch into about a 6 minute TOO before it blasts into Wharf Rat.

With all of the jammy songs, length doesn't automatically mean better- it does give it the opportunity to be even better but can also meander, like you say.

The cool thing with this 8/25/72 release is that the circulating boards, IIRC, cut out halfway through TOO so it will be cool to have the whole thing, and that first half is pretty fucking good.
