Good song. Demented Dave tunes are always welcome. Catchy AF.

I can only imagine how jarring I Did It had to be after the band's first 3 albums and the summer of 2000 new songs

There's no controversy, this song is trash.

I can actually remember the first time I heard I Did It. January 2001 we took our kids down to Florida to visit the grandparents and we were out to eat and I went to the men's room and I Did It was playing and I was like "wtf is this?". I came back to the table and I must have looked like I had seen a ghost because my wife asked me what happened. I guess hearing it in the bathroom was pretty appropriate though.

I’m glad I became a fan shortly after ED came out. I heard the whole catalogue all at once, so ED was easy to dismiss and ignore.

I had my cassette in the home stereo ready to go, as a radio station spent the previous 24 hours or so hyping up that they had the new DMB single off the new album.

Hit record when the time came. Wasn't convinced it was DMB for like the first 30 seconds. Thought the DJ messed up and played the wrong song. It has an interesting place in the story of DMB. It's kind of a harmless joke of a song now, but its pre-album unveiling marked the end of 1.0.

Song sucks. I love how a number of the older fans recognize that, and many of the newer, younger folks think it's cool.

I was just talking to my buddy about this...the divisions between v1, 2 and 3.

I put a fade out on each.

v1 faded out through 12/17/00. It was slipping away there. But they had already recorded Everyday by then, so did it really end that fall? I guess if a line must be drawn, it was release day for I Did It.

v2 abruptly ended on 4/1/08, the last performance with Butch, and...

v3 began on 5/30/08, the first : show with Tim Reynolds and evolved from 6/28 to 8/19 with the departure and death of Roi and the replacement of Jeff.

Last question I still haven't heard definitive responses to...

Are we now in v4, the post-Boyd era?

I have about the same type of initial hearing of that song. Like Mitch said, I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Going from songs on the LWS and then hearing ED for the first time I almost thought it was a joke, but then realized it wasn't and couldn't believe that was a DMB song.

Which would you rather?

1) Listen to TGIY?
2) Listen to ODH?
3) Advanced liver failure.

ODH > Liver Failure > TGIY

I can understand why people don’t like it. But I do. I wish singing was dialed back to about 80% of studio cut, and lyrics a bit more creative. But overall it works for me. Claps help a lot

Yea, this song is not my cup of tea, to say it nicely. Like most of the Stand Up songs, it’s a nice “idea” that was never fully fleshed out and finished. The riff is repetitive, the vocals are horrible, and the horn lines and ending jam are missing from the actual studio cut. Pretty terrible all around. I would take “Sister” love over this one.
