This is the first time I've heard Dave do those particular fills in between lines in the verses of DDTW. Has that been going on a while and I just haven't been paying attention? Kinda neat.

i think he does those when he plays it solo. the first time i saw him do those fills was way back when dmb played an acoustic set in the lead-up to BTCS release (with carter on the bongos)

Agreed, I thought he sounded great, very intimate. Mercy and Here On Out particularly.

Count me in the camp that didn't really care for Here On Out on the album. It just feels out of place, probably because it's not a band song. However, in this setting it sounds great. Dave's falsetto is still great when he doesn't have to strain too much. Also, I love how the description on the NPR site below the video refers to SDL as a deep cut.

I saw someone post on the Facebook page that referred to NPR originally posting that it was an unreleased song or something

That NPR writer makes mistakes all the time. He had a really bad one on a recent Ryan Adams post and didn't ever bother to correct it.

FAKE NEWS!

I wish they would release the unedited version with all his banter and small stories, I'm sure that were pretty funny/interesting.

he was making a lot of mistakes throughout, so i wonder how badly he must have fucked up Little Red Bird for them to have cut it out. (sure, it could have been cut for time, but thats not what i would put my money on at this point)

Dave hasn’t been this active with public appearances in as long as I can Remember. 2009 at least.

So is this worth watching? The set he played has me at 0% interest to listen.

Yeah since Big Whiskey. The band was all over the damn place when that album came out. AFTW had almost no promotion compared to it. This time Dave is doing a lot on his own, not much with the band (as of yet)
