After a few attempts on my life, I resigned after I was told I could not be reassigned due to limited staffing and my role conducting outreach state wide for missing and runaway minors.

I consulted with my wife and gave one week's notice.

After burning through nearly all my savings, looking for a job for 7 months in the desolate county of Atlantic here in lovely New Jersey, I landed a position as volunteer coordinator for a non profit. Great! I didn't really want to go back to that field but my experience for over a decade is in this type of social work-y role. No sweat job, no danger! No direct care. What could possibly go wrong?

Six months ago in December, I interviewed a young man that wanted to volunteer. During the interview he disclosed that he uses marijuana and that he often encourages clients at the soup kitchen he currently volunteers at to go off of their psych meds and do the same. Also, before the interview was over, he asked me on a date. I replied courteously and professionally and sent him a letter two weeks later stating that we could not use him as a volunteer at that time.

Over the last six months he has emailed and contacted myself and the agency I work for multiple times, in some instances more than once a day saying he was discriminated against by me because he was different and that I am prejudice.

Right up to this week he has made contact and has gone as far as coming to the city I work in and dissuading potential clients from coming where I work for service on the grounds they will be discriminated against.

In addition to that, I work in a dangerous neighborhood and was present when state police raided the shelter I work in with AR15's when we were housing a person who hadn't disclosed they were wanted in connection in an investigation regarding a homicide in a different County.

I can not fucking wait to get out of here and focus on music and get a day job installing windshields or tending bar.

I have seen more death, suicide and repugnant human nature than I can ever forget over the last 12 years.

I needed to get that off my chest in confidential "safe place". Is it June 15th yet?

Thanks, TDC.

So I work two jobs, one is a passion (working in Live Event / Festival Management tech side of things) the other pays the bills (IT at a huge law firm).

I've been away from my bill paying job for two weeks bouncing around New Orleans working a gig, then back in the city hanging with people and seeing movies... now I have to get mentally prepped to show up at my desk tomorrow and sit around bored AF for 12 hours of updates, bullshit and babysitting an incompetent co-worker.

Fuck.

The Official "Work Sucks/Complain a About Your Job" Thread

My girlfriend is a badass at what she does. She has been the director of the Special Collections and Rare Book Room at the university library here in town for 4 years. Simultaneously, she was sought to right a sinking ship 2 years ago at a prestigious archive facility and killed it. She’s held an “interim” position requiring a master’s degree for 4 of the 5 years she’s been there. To go any further she just needs her masters degree.

She applied to 4-5 programs and received full-ride + stipend and bennies for each. Basically had her choice.

I actually love my work and we are moving to Flagstaff next month. My biggest concern was staying in the business I’ve come to love.

Had an interview yesterday for a job almost identical to my favorite gig up here in the midwest. It went really well and I’m waiting on a call early next week. Would ease so much of my anxiety about moving if I land this thing. Cross those fingers for me.

Flagstaff is a great little town with a pretty decent culture and music scene. With your experience I’ll bet you find something good.

And seriously, Flagstaff is a really great place. I love that town.

It took me two hours of screaming into the void to get one of our dcops guys to actually fix a server they took down that was crippling users. At one point after i finally got him on the phone he went "oh yeah i was reading that email" MFker no you were not i have read receipts turned on this isnt my first goddamn rodeo with your bullshit.

How the fuck is it easier to juggle the infrastructure thats dealing with 2 venues, 18 hours of concerts and 3 days of convention centers than it is to deal with one office building. gah. I cant wait for summer to end and the team i manage to have its staffing levels returned to something even remotely normal.
