It then turned into when did they stop being special guests/touring members? Since there isn't really a clear answer to that question, we decided that it makes the most sense to just list everyone who's playing on a given song. (This avoids the whole issue of "why is/isn't Jeff considered an official member?" which I've always thought is a pretty stupid thing to care about.)

The following people only show their first name (to save space and eliminate as much clutter as reasonably possible) and are always listed first in the personnel list (to make it easier to see who the true guests are): Dave, Carter, Stefan, LeRoi, Boyd, Peter, Butch, Tim, Rashawn, Jeff, and Buddy.

As Rob said, this makes even more sense now that Boyd is gone too because without this change, we'd be listing more people in the personnel column than we were not listing (i.e., we'd be listing Jeff, Tim, Rashawn, Buddy and not listing Dave, Carter, Stefan). The funny thing is that the last email I have to Matias about this was from Feb 1, which was the day before Boyd quit. This came back up yesterday, though, because someone tweeted us asking whether Boyd was still playing with the band—without listing everyone who's playing, there would have been no way to tell that Boyd hasn't been at the last few shows just from looking at the show pages.

Another (admittedly small) problem this change fixes is that when a "guest" plays something by himself (let's say a Robert Randolph intro that's tracked separately or a Tim solo tease of a random song) it's clear that it's just that one person playing and not DMB + that guest.

(When I get home, I'll post the info I found when I was researching how Jeff, Tim, etc. have been officially labeled over the past several years. It's kind of interesting/confusing.)

EDIT: FYI, this will be applied retroactively to all previous full-band shows. I've done 1991 and pre-Boyd 1992 manually, and the rest of 1992–2017 should be coming before too long.

EDIT: Here you go:

thank you for all of your guy’s hard work with this. I think it’s an excellent change!

Under the Song Spread section, it would be fabulous if you could click on each of the numbers for whatever album is represented and see the corresponding song(s) highlighted in the set.

What's awesome is when Jay surprises even the rest of us sometimes. Like when he worked on the different artist tags and filters.

What did you submit? Post it here, I'm always interested in seeing.

There's so much the almanac has, as it is, but from time to time there's something I pick up on while listening to a show and notice it's not notated yet.

I really enjoy the 2/17/1996 Say Goodbye so this is my take on the alternate lyrics:

Spoiler:
So here we are tonight, you and me together
with the storm outside, this fires bright
oh and in your eyes
I see what's on my mind
you got me wild, turned around inside
oh and this desire she is creeping up heavy
oh inside here
I know you feel the same way as I do now
let's make this an evening
we'll share some wine, maybe we get high, you and I

oh baby, tonight
oh forget tomorrow just while the light is low
and oh well we'll passionate pictures
you and me well twist up this ?evening?
and wait here, till tomorrow go back to bein friends.

hey hey hey yea

well tomorrow back to bein friends
tonight let's be lovers
we'll roll and sweat
we'll turn this better thing to the best
aw what can we offer
our tongues in-twined
lips so fine
?and uh, well uh? the wine tastes sweet to me
but you taste better
like a dream, we'll see

oh stay here with me
oh lover just for the evening
and tomorrow your back to your man
i'm back to my world
we're back to bein friends
?and we're lying? for you, just for this evening
oh let's strip down and trip out at this
one evening's love starts with a kiss
and wait here, yea
tomorrow go back to being friends
oh, oh
we're back to bein friends

oh well tonight let's be lovers
say you will
tonight let's be lovers
say you will
tonight let's be lovers
all we do
tonight let's be lovers
oh play here with me
all the love just for an evening
oh tomorrow your back to your world
im back to my thing
and we are back to our honest time
oh lover, really
?let's/that's? just this evening
oh we'll strip down and trip out at this
our evening's love started with a kiss
then wait, here
lover
and tomorrow back to bein friends
but tonight
lovers
lovers
love you
just for tonight
lover
one night yeah
oh
tomorrow say goodbye
tomorrow say goodbye
tomorrow say goodbye.
hey

I think it's more of when they have enough stuff and time to make it worth it. Some stuff seems to pop up quick and others takes more time

is there any way to see how many JUST DMB shows I've been to? i can do the math, but wasn't sure if I was missing something that was already created.

for example, I have been to 117 shows. I was trying to find out when I was at my 100 DMB show (not including d+t or d+f). I was able to do it with some math... but math is hard some days.

On My Almanac there's a "Viewing Stats for" dropdown and you can select just DMB. Not sure if that helps though, you were probably looking more for a My Shows list that you could sort.

I've got the show listed now, but I can't get the video to play... It just plays a pet adoption ad and then doesn't play the actual video. Anyone else having this problem? I've tried on two different browsers and on my phone.

In the meantime, what do they play?

Thanks—it's working on my phone now. That's Jeff Brodnax, who also played with Boyd at Relix later that year. I assume it's one of his own songs (the ones they played at the Relix thing were his)... I'll look into it later. "Unknown song" for now.
