12-28-18 Set Picks/Discussion (Lummus Park | Miami Beach, FL)

Capital One Beach Bash
12/28/2018
Lummus Park South Beach
Miami Beach, FL

Show Begins @ 8:15 pm EST

Spoiler:
One word that always makes people happy: free.

Four words that make many pop-rock music fans happy: the Dave Matthews Band.

Put them together and what do you get?

Yes: Matthews and the guys are set to play a free concert, The Capital One Beach Bash, at Lummus Park in Miami Beach on Dec. 28, Billboard first reported. The show kicks off the festivities a day before the Capital One Orange Bowl at Hard Rock Stadium.

Gates open at 4 p.m., but admission will be first-come, first-served, so getting there early is advised.

Bonus for Capital One cardholders: You’ll have access to a VIP lounge at the front of the stage, according to an announcement on Matthews’ official website.

Look for info and updates on Twitter @CapitalOne and the credit card company’s Facebook page.

The group will be busy, launching a 10-city arena tour Nov. 27 in Columbus, Ohio. It wraps Dec. 15 in Charlottesville, Virginia, where DMB formed in 1991.

I was supposed to visit family in Florida and go to this show, but came down with a nasty cold and just cancelled the trip. As a result I selfishly hope this ends up being the typical festival set I expect. But I think there’s a chance for Beach Ball (which I’ve never gotten) or something cool with Walk the Moon like Dreams of Our Fathers or something. But here’s what I expect:

One Sweet World
Don’t Drink the Water
Samurai Cop
Satellite
What Would You Say
Again and Again
#41
Sledgehammer
Warehouse
She
You and Me
Jimi Thing

Grey Street

This would be pretty cool and something I hadn't considered until now, which means it'll never happen.

In Miami. Aventura, specifically.
I’ve never cancelled a flight/trip just hours before my flight. Was a tough decision. From a DMB standpoint, I was very happy with the two MSG shows last month, so I don’t mind missing this show. Still a bummer though. And now I’ve just been at home sick, sleeping and watching movies all day. Not how I wanted to spend my Xmas break, hope to feel good enough in the next day or so though to go have some fun.

For those going:
DMB is supposed to play from 8:45-10:30 (when apparently fireworks will happen). Walk the Moon plays at 7. Warehouse members can enter at 4. Capital One cardholders can enter at 3:30. In the downtime between entry and showtime, I think there’s going to be some marching bands playing or something.

They started a few minutes early and seem to be trucking along pretty quick, without long breaks. I imagine they can fit 14-15 songs into their slot, as long as they don't play more than one 10+ minute song.

Shake Me Like a Monkey

Actually surprised by SMLAM given it wasn't played this Fall. But not surprised that this will inevitably be a BW-heavy set. Every "festival" set since the album came out has been.

Proof you can’t please everyone: Guy periscoping is diehard enough to get the rail at a festival show and he’s yelling for Stolen Away.

I don't mind Stolen Away. But nobody should be clamouring for it.
