its also way easier to find a sax player than a violin player who fits in the dmb sound. they already had a readily available player in jeff as well, who had a history and chemistry with the band. there's never been another violin player who has played with dmb in all of their history.

buddy strong wasn't just some random that they plucked off the street. he had connections with the band through rashawn. i don't think the band is all that interested in starting with someone completely from scratch just for the sake of having that specific instrument's sound - which i think most of us would agree: this recent tour proved that they don't need it

I think realistically this lineup we’re going to have to get used to for several years.
Well, this isn’t accurate. They brought in Jeff when Roi was injured, and expected to make a full recovery, in order to finish the tour. Had Roi died initially, the tour would have almost certainly been immediately cancelled and who knows what the future might have held.

I aslo don’t see Boyd’s return as ‘questionable.’ He was fired. He isn’t coming back. I would love if they could find a violin that could work with them.

I'm definitely on board with getting a violin back in the mix.

That's my wish....keep Buddy on, tone Tim and Rashawn down and bring in someone who knows how to play the violin/fiddle.

Agreed. I don’t think they’re going to replace Boyd. At least not in the next few years. Boyd might not be able to handle a replacement very well mentally, and the band probably knows that.

And Boyd might have been “fired”, but he was not fired publicly. As far as the public is concerned he’s taking a “leave” and the band simply said he is no longer with them. Replacing him would be equal to admitting he was fired. And as long as people are still going to see shows, not clamoring for a violin, and the band is happy with its sound, I don’t see them ever replacing him.

They publically said he was ‘fired’ from DMB.

It’s semantics, I know, but they never said he was fired. Just no longer a member of the band. And Dave never said he will never return, so I just don’t see them replacing him for quite sometime.

He's no longer listed in the Band section of dmband.com.

They cut him out of the new album. Even the song's he's on, you can barely hear him.

They never acknowledged his absence once during the Summer/Fall tours.

Buddy never played with the band or even knew the band's music. No "history" or "chemistry". You basically negated your own point.

Well, Tim can play Violin... Wouldn't that be hilarious.

"Having explored most musical styles, from rock to jazz and flamenco to reggae, Tim makes use of every instrument with his wide-ranging musical ability and rises above the mere mastery of chops to a virtual state of communion with whatever instrument he happens to be holding. He is a self-taught master of the sitar, solo jazz guitar, solo djembe, twelve string guitar, violin, and mandolin, along with his acoustic and electric guitars."

There's nothing stopping him from putting the guitar down for 3-4 songs a night and throwing down some violin fills. Warehouse, Too Much, etc. Clearly not happening but if he can play, why the f not.

There are literally thousands of other "rock" bands out there I could listen to without a violin......I started listening to this band because of their unique sound. Fuck them if they think they can still get away with being "DMB" without one of its original instruments. God damnit their decision making sucks.

I went to a show last summer and it was ok, but I wouldn't do that for years and listen to shittier versions of what the songs used to be.
