But come on. What is wrong with this set? There are strong moments throughout this entire show. The encore is amazing. Both Two Step and Halloween are huge rarities the last couple years. Warehouse, Jane, Crush, Say Bye, LIOG, R&R, Ants with preservation hall.
So much gold here. How could people be upset with this?
Because each year we keep upping the % of “acceptable” shit in a set.

15 years ago you may get like 3-4 shit songs. Sans 2005, most every other year since it’s been like 6-8. Now, it seems 10ish average to meh songs is “acceptable.”

The trend is going the wrong way.

They sold stadiums but at what cost? How many fans did they alienate to sell out stadiums to people probably just interested in seeing them once?

I’m not talking three nights, SM. There’s no reason Phish is selling out multiple nights of MSG and DMB isn’t other than Phish is creatively far likelier to take chances and challenge themselves and a lot of people find that interesting and worth seeing over and over.

I know, “stop comparing DMB and Phish!” Sorry, they’re managed by the same dude and have had careers that sort of parallel each other, so it’s inevitable.

The majority of people at SPAC don’t really care what they play

Trey would geek out with a fan over setlists, Dave would call security

Watch the Halloween from 2009 on YouTube. There’s a great wide shot of the crowd after they start playing that.

Then come back here and try justifying that comment.

SM, my iPhone is at 5% and I’m using the rest of my battery on on Hinge, not trying to diffuse your disingenuous points. I long ago gave up trying to change minds that don’t want to be changed.

Idk I personally would rather see 3 shows of DMB "phoning it in" than 1 show of Phish doing anything. Thats just me personally and I'm not speaking of anyone else but the Phish shows I saw when I was a lot younger were enough. I was thinking of hitting up their MSG shows but I don't think I can tolerate the crowd at this point in my life.

Solid set. Anyone who expects any better is fooling themselves. There’s just too much mediocre material. Throw in the obnoxious covers and it is what it is. When I go, I’m there for a couple of drinks and a night of nostalgia. Anyone looking for creativity/artistry is at the wrong show.

The encore was a blast.

Ants was one for the books as well. Thought the set was balanced well. Would have preferred Recently again with D’Earth instead of Jimi - but then again, who wouldn’t?

There’s like 5 songs tonight made after 2003 in this set. This set is mostly old school material. Halloween was played too. If this was 2000-2008, it automatically would’ve been a legendary show by having Halloween. This set is much better than 12/10/05, which people considered a massive highlight show for years at the time.
I don’t know what to make of the reactions around here anymore. Not sure what people are looking for to be honest.

MSG n1 had Seek Up, 41, KTK, Sweet Emotion > Minarets, LLD, Typical, STDH, LIOG, and WYA. Yet it has one of the lowest ratings on Ants.org. I don’t agree and I no longer understand how this fan base evaluates things. Seems like everyone has different ideas now what constitutes a good show.

Tonight was excellent. Sure there were 3-5 songs I would have liked to replace but that's ok. The band played great, they played a long set, they were having fun and I left wanting more.
