2018 Fall: Show 11 - 12-14-18 Set Picks/Discussion (John Paul Jones Arena | Charlottesville, VA)

2018 Fall Tour: Show #11
12/14/2018
John Paul Jones Arena
Charlottesville, VA

Show Begins @ 8:15 pm EST

Spoiler:
John Paul Jones Arena, or JPJ, is an arena owned by the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.[6] Since its opening in 2006, it serves as the home to the Virginia Cavaliers men's and women's basketball teams, as well as for concerts and other events. With seating for 14,593 fans (nearly twice the capacity of its predecessor, University Hall), John Paul Jones Arena is the largest indoor arena in Virginia and the biggest Atlantic Coast Conference basketball arena located outside of large metropolitan areas.[a] JPJ opened for basketball on November 12, 2006, with Virginia defeating No. 10 ranked Arizona 9390, handing Hall of Fame coach Lute Olson his first season-opening loss in six years.

Virginia men's basketball is 17241 (.808) at John Paul Jones Arena as of December 10, 2018. The Cavaliers have fared even better, 13325 (.842), at JPJ during the Tony Bennett era. Virginia fans in the arena are known for cheering loudly for defensive stands and for providing what Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino, who retired without a win at JPJ, called "one of the best home court advantages I've ever seen" where Wahoo fans seem like they are "on top of you."

The arena is named after the father of billionaire alumnus Paul Tudor Jones, who donated $35 million toward the construction of the arena. It is not named after Admiral John Paul Jones, although Paul Tudor Jones himself purchased paintings of the famous Admiral that are displayed at the arena, and the Admiral's words "I Have Not Yet Begun To Fight" are also permanently inscribed there

Very happy I sold my tix. Have a killer cold, the sets have been meh, and I found out my work contract ended two weeks early because we were basically too efficient (FYI to all wanna be superstars at work: I’d youre paid by the hour, use ALL THE BILLABLE HOURS assigned to you for the project. It pains me when people don’t get this and instead rush to get everything done. They BUDGETED for you to use “X” hours. Use all of them! Morons).

Good news is I have another contract starting Jan 2 so it’s not a huge deal. But still didn’t expect to spend the final two weeks of December on the couch.

But with that all said these shows were absolutely the hardest of hard passes and I’m glad I did it.

Can’t believe they didn’t let buddy do Linus/Lucy. Such an obvious song to bring back with minimal effort from anyone else.

This should be a good end to the run. Especially since they kinda snoozed through last night. Nice they have openers tonight as well, I kinda miss that aspect of DMB shows in comparison to other bands I hit up. Haven't done Jimi Thing in a while so I would bet thats going to have a truck loads worth of horns on it one of the two nights.

That show that they played with a bunch of new guests and an orchestra for the first time since 1995?

I mean fuck me. There's enough stuff to criticize around here using actual examples instead of just some random shit you think of.
