Just downloaded and listened to this. I'd never known there was a '94 NYE show. What a show. Just a reminder that despite whatever happens present or future, we'll always have these. Great stuff.

Edit: This Jimi jam is perfection.

I'm moving slow on this one. Let's give it a couple more days. I've listened to about 3/4ths of the show, I'll finish up today.

I'm going to listen today. I bought this one at CD Warehouse before I knew what was up.

Listening again in full right now. On Jimi.

Decent opening set - I really liked Get In Line (love this tune in general), pretty standard otherwise. Roi was really good on BOWA and he definitely interpolates The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly at the beginning of Two Step.

Interesting Nancies jam, I liked the way BT/Carter/Dave found that little groove. Also loved this #36 to kick off the new year - 1995 bitches!

Overall, this is just a decent one. Quite a few meh performances and botches.

Jimi, #36, Get In Line, Say Bye, and Nancies were my clear cut highlights. I'll give it a **3/4

It was a good listen. I'm not a fan of 94s in general, I think it's amazing the difference in sound when they came back in late January. But I enjoyed this as much of a memory from when it was one of like 5 shows that I had.

Personally, I love 2/10 and 2/11 at the Tower Theater in Philly; 5/10 full band acoustic at Yoshi's in Oakland; the 5/19-21 run opening for the Dead in Vegas; 8/20 in Cincy with that little Raven snippet in the encore; 10/4 with some first time Crash tunes and then the entire New Year's run with the Flecktones.

I’d throw 2.24 in that discussion, with the popper and trey guest spots.

7/26 for SURE. 2/10 and 2/11 as mentioned, with 2/10 being slightly stronger, IMO. You have to mention 4/5, the full band acoustic show as well.

8/20, 9/2, Farm Aid, the tint acoustic radio show - 3/16 I believe, 1/26 with Trey. The Roseland shows with Popper. 4/7 is great. So many incredible released shows, sbds, radio pulls, and auds. Really a ton of variety to pick from when it comes to 95.

I actually thought about just saying to wait until you show up in this thread and don’t listen to anyone else’s recommendation.

The Tower shows were the first two tapes I had back in the day. Fantastic stuff.

Ok, let's move on. I've had a bit of an urge to listen to this type of show. The one in the middle of a great tour that you probably haven't even ever looked at the setlist.

May 21, 1998 - Desert Sky Pavilion - Phoenix, Arizona

I was between three or four for this pick, expect to see those later or if someone listens to this quickly, I'll post some others like this one.

Here are two links to folders. The first one is fully tagged with song names. The second one I've wiped all the tags and filenames so if you want to listen 100% spoiler free, you can.

The tape is good for a Spring 1998. I listened to a bunch of different spots on the show, and in my good headphones, it was a totally enjoyable listen, but obviously doesn't compare with today's recordings. But I'm sure your ears will get used to it.

Here is the fully tagged folder:

Looks like song 2 is 40 seconds, hmm I wonder what that one is?

Looking forward to giving this one a listen!

This was an excellent pick, Rob! Thoughts/notes:

Great start with a sharp but breezy Rapunzel with an awesome solo from Roi. A lot of early 1998 Rapunzels weren't tight with no mistakes, but I thought this one was. BT was excellent and in tune for Billies. Great slotting too, love early set Billies. Tremendous Two Step too, with one of those eerie intros from Dave that really catches your attention. I see the alamanac didn't have the lyrics, here is what I heard:
Quote:
Well, I'll leave
Ah, white as day
I can remember
at first of all that I start
I throw my hole into the sunny night
oh well I
I fell asleep there and was burning
why don't I dream that we whole one night crawl in, might leave
Carter and Dave go on to nail the outro, love the chords Dave's hitting.

This show is phenomenal with Crush/DDTW/#41 and Last Stop until the reprise when Tinskree rears his ugly head. I don't get why he was so consistently out of tune on these reprises. But, he was great on Crush (along with Carter and Roi) and #41. This #41 in particular was top tier, they were killing it. Boyd's accompaniment under Roi's solo along with Carter's crisp and energetic playing really elevate this version. Then I love how Dave lightly strums the end chords to fade out the performance.

Good Crash, and a lovely Stone with a calming and beautiful outro from Dave and Roi. Then Recently, very well slotted.

Strong finish to the set, though the opening run was where it was at. I do love how Dave played some chords along with Roi's parts on ASTB.

Nice, long intro to Watchtower. I love the way those chords sounded from Dave in 1998 in that intro. Good growling bass from Fonz. The one song Typical encore was interesting - though I do wonder if a song was cut. They played Typical E1 a few other times that tour. Cool vibe ending the show though and was this not the first Typical to close a show since 2.9.93 - per my almanac sleuthing, this is what I found?

Rating: ****1/4
Live Trax Desire: Very high. I really want an early 1998 show with the BTCS songs in their infancy, performed well. This one fits the bill.
