completely different viewing experiences. if you want to think more, and immerse yourself into the job and lives of a lot of people go with the wire. if you like pumping your fist a lot and screaming "fuck yeah" go with the shield.

The people who think the Wire is a cop show, are the same people who only watched Sopranos to see someone get "whacked" or Tony to fuck a hot chic.

The Wire is really social commentary at it's best...the way they have a different theme each season, and then mix those all together into the bigger picture, is straight brilliant.

It's accuracy is also what gives it credibility, these guys were former cops & newspaper journalists in Baltimore.

This show is filmed & takes place in Baltimore...but it doesn't have to be Baltimore...it can be New York, LA, St. Louis, any big city in America. The show is about America...and how F'd our society really is.

it was written by a baltimore detective and a baltimore reporter, and most of the characters and events are or are based on real people. the bunk in particular is a real person named the bunk, (which is obviously awesome to know somebody like that exists). i just finished up season 4 for the second time, there are two great documentaries on the season 4 dvd, but dont watch them til after the season cause they're spoilers.

I know, it's just a question I field from people a lot cause they all think the wire is just another cop show; yours was a good answer, relax killer.

hey sorry for assuming that, since you're on season three, and the documentaries that talk about most of that stuff are on season four, that MAYBE there was something you didnt know already, and thought I'd share some information. No need to be a prick.

just finished the finale. i was kind of disappointed that the mcnulty/freamon serial killer thing wrapped up pretty much exactly like i thought it would. but overall it was a good end to the show. now i feel like i did when i finished the shield. i didn't want it to end and i could watch these characters forever. now that it's all over i'd rank the seasons 4>3>1>2>5. they dropped the ball for a good portion of this season with some really ridiculous shit that just didn't make much sense to me and stretched believability, but the last 3 episodes were fantastic.

best television show ever made. not even debatable.
