are you running snow leopard 10.6.1 and safari 4.0.3?

edit: it may also be due to the fact that my schools internet is so fucked up it makes slower than usual, so I think safari just like tried to load all this shit then gives up and explodes. I can't go to espn.com either.

FYI, you may already know this but you can report bugs to Apple. Click on Safari in the drop down menu and it's second from the top. Report to Apple what's happening. If they get enough reports they may send out a fix in a future software update.

Right now only 64 bit xserves are booting into a 64 bit kernel. Booting into a 32 bit kernel isn't "harming" you at the moment. 64 bit capable apps are running in 64 bit mode unless you have told them to run 32. SO, the apps can address all that memory that you don't have in your macbook.
If you were running a 64 bit kernel and didn't have a 64 bit driver for a device, the device would not run. This would cause you to be really pissed off.

That's the short version of it anyhow.

yeah, but it looks like the reason I am having so many problems is because SL is running in 32 bit mode. I can't figure out how to boot it in 64 bit mode though

If your mac is on that list you can hold down 6 & 4 while booting to force 64-bit kernel mode. If it is not on that list, it will not boot into 64-bit mode.[Only registered users can see links.]
