Yeah. After being such a mainstay in 2012-2015, I was surprised when it started disappearing in 2016 and then gone almost entirely after.
Then again, everything from AFTW basically disappeared over time except Rooftop.

Can't believe the album is 8 friggin' years old now. That's depressing on several levels.

Im onboard with liking this tune. Fun, punchy and uniquely DMB. Studio cut isnt the best, but you sure can jam it with the windows down on a summer day.
Loved it musically when I first heard it, but just can't get past the lyrics. They're so goddamn terrible it ruins it totally for me. I'm glad it got shelved honestly. Glad most of the album got shelved because most of it just never translated live.

Broken Things and Snow Outside are the only songs I'd enjoy having in rotation from the album, otherwise I could care less. I like If Only on the album a lot, but it was really boring live as well. Really needed a sax solo or something and needed to be like 4 minutes shorter.

Check out the If Only from WPB ‘13 for a sax solo.
In terms of translation live, I think BBN, Rooftop, and Snow Outside all do. Mercy does too but like any mellow song has to be well-placed in a setlist.

Oh nice didn't know that happened, is that show easily accessible somewhere? Don't want to download the Aud off DT or anything, not sure if I even have an account there anymore.

BBN is short at least, but would rather hear other songs still.

Rooftop had potential but the whole breakdown with the ladies and crap ruined it for me. I also still never like the whole "I....I want you to" chorus, it's just cheesy/off-putting...there's something about it.

Mercy? Damn man, that would go for like 12-13 minutes of just total noodling that didn't go anywhere, not sure how anyone likes that one live to be honest, so damn boring. And on top of that it's super preachy too. One of my least favorite songs by the band ever and especially live. It's potentially bottom 20 for me.

I feel the same about Mercy. I hate it.

Belly Bell Nice has such awful lyrics I want to puke.

This album just got me all wet a first, but it's got no staying power. It's just not all that good.

Here's the If Only w/ Carlos Malta.

[Only registered users can see links.]

edit: is this solo by Rashawn? Shrill as hell.

The solo is Carlos Malta on saxophone. Not sure how you mistook it for a trumpet.

BBN is not one of those songs that needs great lyrics to me.

I dont really see whats wrong with the lyrics Dave wrote for the type of song that is.

Agreed, although the "belly jelly" line crosses the line a bit for me. Though it's one line, I can ignore it - just as I do with the "licking you from your back to your belly" line in SMLAM... which as I type that out is really, really awful.

I know that. Maybe it's just the quality of the aud, but at times his solo really sounded shrill.

I'm not sure what type of sax he used, but definitely a higher tone than any sax Jeff/Roi plays.

I'm pretty sure it's just the unique tone of the way he plays his soprano sax

Yeah probably. I was at the show and remember it looking like a soprano sax. He just stuck with the higher register overall I guess.

Broken Things is fantastic. When I first heard the album and Broken Things came on I was like...okay they’re fucking back. Why did they abandon this one? Is there a reason? I’m curious.

I thought Dave had a hard time playing/singing it?

Btw the D&T version is fantastic: [Only registered users can see links.]

He said that after playing it at Charlotte ‘13. That was the last time they ever played it. So people, including myself, deduced that he just didn’t like playing it.

It would be pretty easy to make a solid request for this song and send it to Dave for the ‘by request’ show. Lyrically it is almost a perfect fit for the world we are living in now.

I dont get it either. Just a great tune. He has way more intricate guitar work that he sings over, and this is his bread n butter root n 3rd Bm-A-D/F#-G chords. No excuse.

the rhythm on Broken Things is really weird, but yeah strange rhythms are supposed to be his speciality. if he's able to pull off shit like Fool To Think, Broken Things should be a piece of cake

Dave never said he found it hard to play. It's purely fan speculation. I think Dave just doesn't love the song very much, which is why he doesn't wanna play it.
I know hardcores like it a lot, but let's be honest, it's not a hit or anything. Never heard anyone scream for it at a show or anything.
