Wow, Carter is great on this Hello Again.

I could do without another Everyday and Bartender though... but so far this is a good show. Considering getting this...

So yeah '04 was also the last year that DIDO was in regular rotation and still good, this one is no exception.

Of course '04 was when Dave's voice started to get strained too as this OSW demonstrates...

Am I the only one who doesn't like listening to the AUD a bunch before a Live Trax I'm interested in comes out? Don't you just get tired of it before it's even out?

I prefer not hearing the AUD first at all. I think pretty much every release I've only heard the AUD because it was older and I had traded/downloaded/streaming it long before. Which reminds me, I was a big fan of 10/31/98 since way back in my snail mail trading days and I haven't gotten the Live Trax yet. I think a big order download order will be coming as I haven't heard several recent ones I'd like to get.

Question:

While we are on the topic of 2004...

Why did Golden Gate park get some hate when it was released? Because it was an obvious choice? I happen to think it is a great show!

Thoughts?

The mix was (still is?) very much hated by a lot of people. That was the main reason.

Yeah, the mix is compressed all to hell. I know it was released on vinyl at some point; I bet that's much better.

It's a perfectly fine show to have released, but you have to remember that back in '04 we weren't getting 4-6 shows a year yet. So we still only had a handful of shows released, only one LT, everybody had a long list of shows they hoped would come out, and then they chose an obvious show that, while good, wasn't close to the best show that year, and was missing one of the new songs that got played almost every night. And we didn't know when the next release would be. So yeah, it definitely got treated more harshly than it deserved.

I think also it was at this point that people started to see which shows would more than likely be released before the shows even happened. Red Rocks '05, Fenway '06, Piedmont '07, it started becoming a trend since Central Park. Everyone knew those shows would be slated for a release not too long after the show was performed. You could say it started with Gorge '02 being filmed, but I think people dismissed it because Gorge is played every year, while the subsequent "big" venue shows every year after were unique to in regards to the venue choice.

So I think Golden Gate, while being a decent show, received a bit of a bad rap was because some just looked it the show as the "Central Park westcoast", instead of it's own unique thing, ya know?

Definitely true. I forgot about that aspect. But yeah, the predictability definitely took away some of the fun.

I usually don't but I had never heard this show before and I'm on the fence about purchasing so I'm giving it a listen. Most LTs I can decide yes or no pretty easily, especially if it's a show I've heard before, but this one in particular I'm very indecisive about.

I suppose that makes sense.

This show was pretty backloaded with the new material... three of the last 5 full songs were new '04 songs.

Despite some highlights I think this falls short of a purchase for me. In particular I found the Crazy Easy and Good Good Time to be pretty "meh" versions. Not a bad show at all, I'm just much pickier these days with what I buy.

I'll wait for the next '04 release (see you in 2027).

Yeah. Really wish I had a rip of that, but I haven't been able to find one.
