Yeah, I thought that was the point as well. Kylo Ren killing his father was the key to committing to the dark side. Seems unlikely for him to turn back now unless they are going to repeat the story from the original trilogy, where Vader turned back.

Spoiler:
I saw an interesting video theory on YouTube which states that Rey may potentially be a descendant of Palpatine, as opposed to Skywalker. This would be very interesting and potentially reverse the roles from the original trilogy.

I've been saying that for a couple of months after I read someone else saying the same thing. I just stumbled across the same (or maybe different video) on youtube and some interesting points are made in the video. I would love for it to become true.

For those on the Rey Palpatine ship, watch TLJ trailer and listen to Rey's lightsaber as it ignites. A familiar screeching howl can be heard.

Sometimes I think that I enjoy the Star Wars theory videos more than the actual movies... this kind of speculation is fascinating to think about.

My feelings on the theory you all are proposing, but it kinda takes me out of the story. Id appreciate everyone's thoughts:

Spoiler:
I hear what you guys are saying but I dont think there is any way disney makes Rey the "bad guy". IMO, she is far more useful/marketable as a "Jedi". Maybe episode 8 will end and we will be wondering, but by the end of 9, she will be good. Thats just my opinion.

Spoiler:
What if the Palpatine family line is good in this trilogy and the Skywalkers are actually the bad ones this time around?

I don’t know what it is, but I’m not too excited for this movie. I was excited for the last one, but looking back, it just seemed like a remake of an older Star Wars with great production.

Well you arent wrong, but I think that is something they felt like they had to do after the prequels.

I agree with MaLaKaS and what he says. I also think

Spoiler:
They are going to ty to go for a big surprise, similar to Vader being Lukes Father in Empire. From a marketing stand point, they have the Porg.
