Looks like a good selection. Plenty of NYE run and Red Rocks per usual, but no selections that are total head scratchers. Looking forward to checking out that Utopianstein, I've only heard 2 of those jams from it. Can attest from seeing it in person that the Bad Friday is the absolute heat. Great version.

Got my tickets for the Beacon shows in Jan. Very psyched. Never been to the Beacon.

Side note - I still think Mantis is their best studio work to date. Not that everything else sucks or is not even comparable, but Mantis just represents this band better than anything else, imho.

I'll also be at the Beacon all 3 nights. Gorgeous venue, you'll enjoy it.

To your side note, I completely agree. Studio work hasn't quite been up to snuff since Mantis imo. Some nice tracks for sure but less of a defined theme in the albums and some detours into styles that don't always suit them. Mantis is the perfect mix of the bands chops, songwriting, and diversity while still feeling like a unified package. Great album.

Topping this since the new Album is out.
Album is very muscially diverse.
"Looks" sounds like something I think Genesis would have made with all the dynamic drumming and heavy chords.
"Whistle Kids" is a fun hangover song.
The second Half of "Remind Me" made me think I had switched over to Anthrax somehow....
"You and You Alone" is a melodic love song and like I said before, it hit me right the old man feelings...
"Speak Up" is the most DMBish song on here, maybe becuase of the guest spot on Sax by Joshua Redman.

"Dark Brush" goes out heavy, it sounded like a Korn riff at some points...

All in All this is a fantastic Album. Its diverse, the Lyrics are relatable, and I can see how they are going to jam out the ones they havent played yet.

I really like this record. Like you mentioned all over the place but in a good way. Maybe Someday is great. In general the run from Whistle Kids through You & You Alone is money for me. Speak Up certainly came out excellent as well

I bought it but it hasn't shipped yet...from the band on 1/17:

Thank you for ordering the Deluxe Edition of it's not us. We are writing to inform you that your box set is currently being assembled in Europe, and will now be shipping the last week in January due to a shortage on the material originally chosen for the slipcase. We had sincerely hoped you would be holding your Deluxe in hand on release day, but alas, sometimes things happen in manufacturing processes that are out of our control. The process is now back on track, and we trust that it will be worth the wait. We will keep you updated as we near the end of the month with a shipping update and tracking number when your order ships.

With gratitude,

Your Friends at Umphrey's McGee

Had a great time at the Beacon on Saturday. The new tunes sound great live.

Definitely want to check out the Sunday show...such a cool idea for a setlist.

Nothing about their new album really caught my attention on the first time listening. I thought it was kinda terrible

Sunday was a lot of fun, very unique idea. If you only listen for the improv it's not gonna be what you're looking for but I thought they executed it very well and it was a nice retrospective on their careers. Overall a very solid weekend at the Beacon.

The new songs sounded good live as well. Remind Me and Speak Up are already well developed and deliver consistent jams but aside from them Silent Type was much better live and Maybe Someday is going to be a heavy hitter in the future. I can't get down with Looks at all though. Pretty terrible song imo.

There is. I have vinyl rips of the 4 bonus tracks. I can forward it along later. The bonus tracks kind of bum me out b/c all except for one should have probably been on the album. They're really good. There's a Stasik one that's very short and just a silly fun song that wouldn't have fit unless it was a hidden track or something but there's a spacy, jazz fusion instrumental called Interloper, a beautiful studio take on Upward, and a sick tune allegedly called Triangle Tear (the hidden 7" didn't state the name).
