New visual technology at MSG

I havenít seen people mentioning this but last night was a super new visual experience. It was absolutely amazing and something Iíve never seen.

Yeah it really didn’t look terribly out of the ordinary, despite Fenton always doing a solid job.

Were you maybe on drugs?

He might be referencing the use of MSG's house lights, which were definitely being used at least a little bit last night

Chris Kuroda (Phish) is MSG's house lighting director now, he started using the house lights during Phish shows last year in conjunction with the stage rig. He's definitely been working to allow any act that wants to use them to use them, but I was surprised to see them go on at DMB...but I probably shouldn't have been given all the Phish/DMB management overlap etc

There are a set of lights in a circle around the jumbotron, and then another set farther out. Both were being used last night at points

Google image Phish MSG AZN and you'll see examples

I had no idea about this when I went to my 1 Baker's Dozen show last year. All of a sudden I was surrounded by light. One of my favorite concert moments ever.

Yeah I think it was just really another level of flow, lighting and design. It seemed just more immersive.

I was on the floor last night and definitely did not appreciate how much the house lights were being used, I was in 101 tonight and it was a perfect view. I think tonight they were barely used until Warehouse, and then they were used pretty extensively. I'm impressed, it's cool that acts besides Phish can go in there now and use that to augment their stage rig

Few pics for those who care, happy to post more tomorrow: [Only registered users can see links.]

I noticed the house lights last night but not exactly sure it counts as new technology

The video feed is indeed new technology. They are using new programs that are running overlays based around the same technology used in Snap chat and Instagram filters. They are now able to have effects happening while the band is performing. I noticed Dave move out of the frame and the software was trying to find the subject. It was pretty impressive stuff. The visual production is a whole new level.

Yeah the ceiling lights are nuts at MSG. I was really blown away by the lighting there. A lot of it reminded me of a production level version of the Hue Sync that I use in my apartment / htpc where it will send the color washes around the room in tune with the music and on screen colors. My father was commenting about how MSG made the Jones beach lighting look like garbage

AXIVA is rating live event space as the next big thing to blow up and have the technology advances we’ve seen across the rest of the AV space. This stuff is just the tip of the iceberg.

I’d love to see DMB take it to another level with the video wall usage. This years back drop is neat, but its not all that visually pleasing.
