i spot checked this summer's 2-night stops. N1 vs N2 rarity:

16-7
32-23
34-24
22-6
5-11
3-20
21-8
9-2-1 (gorge)

that's 6 out of 8.

Seems like an overly technical way of looking at it, while true. The context matters. I suppose it comes down to semantics but I don't consider these repeats in the traditional set. If they play Samurai Cop or TGIY tomorrow at the same venue that's a repeat.

Rarer =/= a better show.

I remember a lot of 1 nighters in 2013 that were a lot better than either stand of a 2er.

I agree. And this show picked up late, but I think generally at the 2nd show of the tour you don't want to see many repeats, even if a different venue. It doesn't bode well for the rest of the tour if they're already repeating and not digging into what hopefully is a bunch more stuff they've practiced.

You have a better objective metric than rarity index? Not saying it's always right but it generally does a good job of showing which shows had a bunch of tour staple repeats, which are usually N1s.

I do agree the N1/N2 discrepancy has gotten better though.

Not sure how Dave can whiplash between his best material and lyrics to songs like Funny. He must just have perpetual cognitive dissonance.

For the same reason he can play You and Me right after — crowd reaction

He would have got the same reaction repeating Say Goodbye though. Or crash. Or crush.

There’s just too much mediocre/bad material these days to get a great set.

Crash and Crush we’re not played Show 1. And You and Me gets a bigger crowd reaction than Say Goodbye.

I don’t mind Funny, Y&M, YMTD on their own, but strung together like this to end a set is so so brutal.

Fair point. But it takes a three nighter and running out of the crappy stuff to get something close to resembling a great set. I also think it’s more likely to happen with D&T.
