Not with me directly, but I know it's discussed every few months, at least.

And now that I think about it, I've always considered 1.0 to be 1991-1997; 2.0 1998-2007; 3.0 2008-2016; 4.0 2018-present

Mostly because:
1.0: the core 5
2.0: Butch, Ladies, popularity
3.0: Tim, Rashawn, Jeff (-'Roi and Butch)
4.0: Buddy (-Boyd)

I think 2001 certainly had its moments for sure. The best Grey Street I have ever heard was 8.3.2001 and by and far was Grey Street's best year IMO, but you can argue 2000 was of course. JTR was in regular rotation as was GIG and Bartender.

The kick in the nuts partials of Captain and Pig were annoying and the sets were pretty standard, like I said with 7 to 9 ED tunes, a handful of standard classics (DDTW, Watchtower, Too Much, etc), 2 to 3 covers a night (although i really dug Waste as an E1)

Since my fandom this is how I'd rank them

2000
1999
2004
2008
2003
2002
2006
2005
2013
2010
2016
2007
2001
2014
2009
2012
2015
2018
2019

DMB versions as played in my head:

1.0 - The Core Five (Peter being part of 1 and half tours) - 1991 - 2000
2.0 - Core 5 plus Butch - (Ladies playing a few shows, Rashawn joining full time in 2006) 2001 - 2007
3.0 - Core 5 plus Tim, Rashawn - (Butch exits band, Roi passing away, Jeff stepping in) - 2008 - 2018
4.0 - Dave, Stefan, Carter, Tim, Rashawn, Jeff & Buddy (BT exits Band) - 2018 - Current

Listening to the tape of this show now - I really miss the pennywhistle between BEF > Bartender. Made the transition between the songs so much better. When did Roi stop doing that?

Probably when he died, man.

Edit: Low-hanging fruit. But really, I only think he did that in 2001; maybe in 2002. Otherwise, just played it during the Bartender outro and in 2006 during JTR's intro, I believe.

Nah, 2004. Or you can make an argument for 2008 even.

I think this is the way i view it as well. The line between 1.0 & 2.0 is tough to nail down, but i think 12.17.00 is really the last show of 1.0.

Its also interesting, theres really a lineup thats not really represented here and thats May/June 08. Core 5 + Tim + Rashawn. I know i beat it to death around here, but thats is such an interesting lineup to me.

I buy 'em all, because it's what I do, and never get fired up or tooo disappointed by releases by something like the 2009 because it's a different listen.

But that said, I am excited to get this one. It's a tier II show for that tour, was at the near height of my fandom and no one here would say that their sound was bad in 2001. I hope it's mixed as nicely as 6.23.01 - which is a top 5 released mix for me.

Isnít tough for me. In my mind everything pre-ED is 1.0.

I would also listen to the argument that 5/12/01 is the last show of 1.0. They knew they needed a permanent lineup change to make ED work, and only the 5 of them never played a show together again. Still, it’s just easier to say 2001.

Pretty much how I have it as well...

1.0 Inception to LWS
2.0 ED - Roi passing
3.0 BWGGK - Boyd "departure"
4.0 Buddy joins - current

There is a 0.0 chance 1998, 1999 and 2000 are not 1.0.

I love it when we get all navel-gazey like this.

For me, the numbers are about lineups; 1.0 is just the five of them; 2.0 has Butch and possibly Ladies and possibly Rashawn; 3.0 is Jeff, Rashawn, Tim; 4.0 is Buddy.

So for me there's this period from 1998-2000 (and even, as has been mentioned, early 2001) that's transitional, where they play some shows as DMB 1.0 and some other shows as DMB 2.0.

Agreed. Honestly those handful of shows in '01 with just the 5 have more in common with the rest of that year than they do with anything before it so that makes it easier.

3.0 line is similar, should be anything after Roi's last show but that leaves May/June '08 in a weird spot, so just say 2008.

I know that one was taped. Wish the DMB opening act sets were archived somewhere.

I agree 100%. Thereís really not much debate to me, pre-01 is 1.0. You can argue exactly which show it starts at or whatever, but to me Ď00 is when 1.0 ends. Once Ď01 starts Butch is a full time member for the most part and itís a different sound.

For me, DMB 1.0 is the core 5. That changed with Butch in 2000 when he became, minus a few summer shows and the fall tour, a full-time touring member. Then with Butch it became 2.0. Then in 2006 when Rashawn became full-time then it was 3.0 and then in 2008 it became 4.0 (w/ tim and with/without Roi). Of course you could look at this in so many different ways, including Peter as a 1.0, or keep changing with every new touring member, maybe the subtraction of Boyd means a new DMB for people so that could be a factor as well for many.
