Yeah, that's definitely standard practice these days.

Hoping this time is different. They need to come out with a really fun single again.

dmb fans: i hate it when dmb comes out with an album of songs that are not road tested!

also dmb fans: i hate it when songs that are released are songs that we've heard before!

More like:

dmb fans: I don't care what they put out, we love it because we came along too far in the bands career and don't know what the band's true sound is

Hardcores (us): fuck you DMB.

That was 100% the situation with Everyday and Stand Up.

Come Tomorrow was the complete opposite where we'd heard the majority of the album live already, and I think that's partially why the album didn't excite me when it came out. TGIY, She, COCO, Come Tomorrow and When I'm Weary were the only new/unheard songs, which made for a pretty boring new release, especially after a SIX year wait.

At this point, there's nothing really left on the table aside from Bismarck, Sugar Will and Crazy Easy that I'd want on a new album. So, this time, please give me freshly-written and freshly-recorded full band songs.

If it’s a full band version then I don’t mind it at all. There can (hopefully) be a pretty significant difference between how a song played solo by Dave sounds vs the full band version. I for one would love to hear that song full band, assuming the band is actually present on it

Feels like the type of song where they'll just throw a string section behind Dave. I hope I'm wrong.

Hate the titles of the new songs. Should be Shadows on the Wall and Dip and Dive or something more concise.

Also related, Again and Again should have stayed titled Bob Law and ditch the parenthetical title for Samurai Cop.

So subjective though.
“Singing from the Windows” seems like a much more suitable title than “Shadows on the Wall”. I like the title “Ocean and the Butterfly”, aside from the fact that they have a song named Butterfly already.

I’m with you on the parenthetical on Samurai Cop and Bob Law. Even though I don’t mind Again & Again as a title, and I can’t honestly argue against it.

The names never bother me, if the song is good thats really all I need. They literally have multiple songs that are just numbers and no one cares why? Because they’re good.

I feel like over the years fans around here seem to really like the titles that make no sense to the songs.

Bob Law just sounded stupid to me. Doesn't change the song quality one way or the other no matter what they call it, but I thought that was an ill fitting name. It clearly felt like a placeholder, and changing it was the right call imo

Arrested Development reference over a super generic title? Hell yeah.

I'm also glad the name Samurai Cop stuck.

It's a pretty stupid name relative to the tune. I don't care personally, just sayin. Can't believe of all silly song names, this is the one that struck. Joy Begin seems like the obvious choice.

I always see people say AD reference, but like it’s not the name of the character from the show lol. That’s Bob Loblaw. Seemed more like Dave stylizing blah blah to me because he didn’t have a title

He literally introduced it as "this song is called Blahblahblahblah" a few times.
