New Album Thread (2021...?)

Rashawn posted a couple Instagrams confirming further work on a new album. Figured now is as good a time as any to start the speculation and discussion.

The orchestra stuff bothers me, why can’t they just make the album be them? Why is it such a big production all the time? Anyways, Rashawn posted similar stuff back in 2015, including leaking the titles of some songs like “Bismarck” and we didn’t end up seeing that album until 3 years later, with most of those songs scrapped. So, until we hear something official I’m not gonna get my hopes up.imo this album NEEDS to be good. This will make them or break them in terms of being relevant imo

Let’s hope Ocean and Butterfly is the worst song on It. If that’s one of the better tracks. Yikes, gonna be trouble

To be fair there is alot of extra personnel on BTCS. I'm fine bringing on more instruments if they're used effectively.

As for when this album actually gets released is any one's guess, but something about this felt different to me. I don't think they would bother dealing with COVID protocols if they weren't trying to get this album out sooner rather than later.

Did you go back and copy paste this from every single album speculation thread from the last 20 years? Just replace the names of the songs

I’m not even sure 4 band members were ever even in the same room together to make Come Tomorrow, so I’m already more hopeful about this album. (And I’m pretty sure this one is going to be all new material, which is nice considering 75% of CT was heard before).

Strings are usually the last thing to be added to an album, so it’s good the finish line appears to be in sight. I’m guessing the first single drops 7/23 (a Friday, and first show of the tour) with the album coming in Fall.

Safe to say we will be hearing some new stuff at shows this year.

David Campbell was the string arranger and composer on Big Whiskey, as well as Here on Out and Again & Again on CT. He also guested with the string section at Hollywood Bowl 2018.

Excited to hear something soon, always get pumped up for new studio DMB. I think there is a good chance we get a fairly cohesive album this time around. Hopefully it's high quality as well.

I am significantly less excited about my Gorge trip hearing that DMB is planning to release this new album. For album tours, i typically go to way less shows since setlits are usually jammed with new songs. Unfortunately, tickets were bought 18 months ago in this case.

If it's the only run you're going to, I think it's a good thing. You'll hear all the new songs for the first time, with little to no repeats hopefully.
In 2012, Mercy was the only repeat across the 3 nights, and in 2018 I'm not sure they repeated anything.
Also, the album might not actually be out yet by the Gorge which makes it even less likely to get repeats.

2005 and 2009 were different though. Lots of new album repeats. So, we'll see.

it seems 2010 started the new era of DMB making a greater effort to not repeat.

I do agree though that one's Gorge experience is maximized on non-album tours.
