Dancing Nancies 7/3/15

A sturdy version. Weird when Warehouse comes before it.

Another current song that really misses Boyd's violin playing. Obviously when he was on there was nothing better.

Hey, I forgot they did Take Me to the River. This is pretty bouncing.

edit: Boyd was turned down half way during his solo for BBN. I still don't know why it was decided that song had to have no Boyd?

Bela is bluegrassing this Corn Bread up. . Song should never be played without a banjo.

This 'Remembering' improv before Grey Street is lovely. I wish they did more stuff like this.

This is one of my favorite shows I attended. I specifically remember seeing Bela Fleck walk on stage, which was a bucket list item for me and then Dave immediately starting Typical like it was nothing (2nd time seeing it in 36 shows for me) and thinking "WOW things are just totally different at SPAC than my regular shed". They proceeded to play a ripping version of Tyipcal, but it was extremely obvious to most that Rashawn was sticking out like a sore thumb. Bela's solo on Satellite is still one of the most underrated solos ive heard him take, just so nice and pretty. They also added Ants to the acoustic set after Satellite which was much more fitting for how good the set was.

The Dreaming Tree in the electric set was another oh shit moment for me but it also became obvious during DDTW that the band was just way too loud for Bela. It wasnt 1998 anymore and he just couldnt carry over the mix like he used to. That was disappointing for me. As far as the improv before Grey Street i agree, that was such a nice cool little jam the band got into and i saw them do things like that quite a bit from 2012 - 2015 which i think is sorely missing today.

Off hand i can think of the following times:
Mansfield Jam 6.5.12
#36ish Jam as the Lovely Ladies walk out for the first time since 01
7.3.15 improv w/ lyrics (& again on 7.4)

they all were unique, but also showed the band was loose but in a good creative space together.

Go Boyd go!

Old Dirt Hill 7/715

I still don't know how they turned this song into something worth hearing?!

NP: 2/8/95 DMBlive. Nice release, although short. No taper copy, so that's a win. DMB '95 is always a good thing.

Second-to-last version before it became Everyday, even though I still consider them two different songs. Just twins maybe.

Listening to Walk Around the Moon (7/24/15) for the first time. Typical Dave infatuation lyrics. Music is crunchy blues. I like the song. Jeff is great on it with that flute. Shame no violin.

Hey Rashawn, now this is how you play tastefully.

Pretty short, but solid version. Jeff needs to solo at least for a few seconds, geez.

Sweet 7/23/21

Man, this is how the song should have always been. The best full band version by far. Tasteful piano and Tim solo. Excellence.

In my head I can hear where the violin could have added a lot to this song

A Whiter Shade of Pale
The Needle and the Damage Done
Oh

7/11/15

A perfect intro to the full band portion of the acoustic set.

God, I wish they'd go back to this format.

NP: 2/12/95. Nice SBD. Not a perfect tape by any means, but a nice one. Pretty standard winter 95 set. It's on Penn State's campus which is awesome, as I went there.

Now this music has room to breath. A pleasant mix. A good set.

I think you need to be looking at the lyrics through a different lens if you're hearing "typical Dave infatuation" there.

I didn’t realize that John Popper guested on WWYS back in 2015. Just saw that video on YouTube and had the chills when he hits that opening harmonica riff/sound - incredible. That is what started it all for me back in the day…
