it sounded like he was referring to dave which is just bizarre to me. say what you want about the corporate gigs and "i'll play what i want" thing on stage, but he seems like a genuine and nice guy.

I don't think Dave is a "bad guy" at all. He is as humble as it gets. A very likable musician. My issues are more disappointment over what feels like a very uninspired approach to his craft. The "i'll play what I want" is douchey... but I used the wrong word to describe him. |

As I continue to give this record spins, Do I Wait is becoming one of my favorite songs on this. An awesome effort.
Only songs I can't really get into is Rocks. The Big three on this record (Dirty Rain, A/F, Invisible Riverside) are amongst my favorite songs he's ever written. Set the other night. ![]() ![]() Oh My Sweet Carolina Ashes & Fire If I Am A Stranger Dirty Rain Sweet L'il Gal (piano) I See Monsters Invisible Riverside Everybody Knows Firecracker Winding Wheel Lucky Now NY NY (piano) Let It Ride Please Do Not Let Me go Carolina Rain Two English Girls Why Do They Leave? Houses on the Hill Bartering Line --encore with Jason Isbell-- Love in the first degree Danko/Manuel (Drive By Truckers cover) Come pick me up |

Holy shit, that AV interview is the best RA interview I've ever read. He is just ON FIRE. Totally thoughtful and insightful.
I love this part: "The preparation of what I’m doing takes a shitload longer than a person to just listen to it through once, and then start jive-turkeying on the Internet. Because the Internet is an immediate thing, but you can’t fucking write an album on the Internet. So, to me, it’s a virtual meal, and you can’t virtually taste shit. It’s a false experience, when I see the reviews of something that I’ve done, to [only have had] the record for a day. So my records go into my back catalog—my back catalog sells more than anything—and then people can just go to the back catalog. It’s always there; it’s like canned goods. When they’re hungry, they can go and get it, and there it is. It’s there for them." |

Anyone know what this live boxset is he refers to? Sounds like it was just one show, which conflicts with the "boxset" designation. From what tour?

i think it's from this european tour he did a few months ago. and he's playing it off now, but he lost his shit over a few bootlegs getting out because he had something big planned and he threatened to scrap it all because his fans are disrespectful.
i guess he's gotten over that ![]() yeah great interview, the dude is OBSESSED with the internet |
