Best DMB B-Side (Poll)
Kind of curious where people stand on this around here. This is only songs that have been recorded in the studio that have either been released or we've heard. So stuff like Kill The King and Sugar Will aren't included. This is also leaving out obvious stuff like Granny and Help Myself which we know everyone loves.
I would have loved to do a "worst of" bracket style tournament and I still might Down the line, because I feel it gives a more accurate account of which is song is most objectivity better. But this is easier so we'll see what happens PS-- I know there's a supposedly a "break free" studio recording that circulated, but I don't think anyone can verify or was able to verify that it's a legitimate studio track therefore that's also left out.and I don't think it would compete with most of these abyway.

JTR is not only a powerhouse DMB song, but the LWS recording of it is an absolute triumph. I like most of the songs on this list, but in my opinion, only JTR is essential.

Yeah, agreed. I feel like JTR is another level compared to the rest on here.

Love me some Beach Ball.
I like SUAD and Joyride quite a bit too, but man did they fuck those two up in the studio (more JR than SUAD, but SUAD was never truly "completed").

I think JTR is just on a different level than those other songs. That jam section at the end is one of the most unique DMB moments. No other band really brings that, its incredible live.
Take JTR out, we might have a debate. (although we probably will have someone say cornbread or something) SUAD and Monkey man just arent complete. |

If Dave didn't bastardize the end of the JTR chorus lyrics I'd vote for it. MM gets it then basically because it's an untouched relic of DMB greatness.

I voted JTR but Monkey Man is plenty complete to have been considered. That was my second choice.

100% JTR for me. That's a DMB classic.
Honorable mention for me not listed is LWS Captain. I think that version is absolutely brilliant.

Doesnt he just mumble through most of it? I havent listened in forever, but its clearly just several structured sections with nothing going on with the band vamping on them until the next change. song doesnt go anywhere IMO.

JTR for me.
But that does not discount my love for Sweet Up and Down, Monkey Man, Beach Ball, and Cigarette Lit, all of which are very good. Hell, I almost voted for Monkey Man... |

I don't know what version of Monkey Man you've heard, because the one I know has fantastic lyrics.

Yea, he must be thinking of Raven or something. Monkey Man is obviously very polished lyrically.

The answer is JTR but SUAD is a very, very close second, with Monkey Man a close third, so I voted for SUAD because it's ridiculous that that would have no votes
